Got an offer for my domain. What is it worth?

Hello WF,

I have a domain that I never used but got an offer on it. They asked if I had a counter offer. I have never sold a domain before.

I know that PR and optimization has a lot to do with it which I don't have any of (from what I know) but I just want to make sure that I'm selling it at a fair price. How would I know?

Also, maybe I should keep it and over time it could be worth much more. It's a short domain that I'm surprised I even got.

Thanks for your input!

General opinion is a domain is worth its monthly income multiplied by ten.

Make sure you aren't being lined up as a potential victim of a domain appraisal scam - where a potential buyer apparently decides they need the domain appraised and tells you which appraisal company to use. You are then asked to send money for the fake appraisal and, surprise, never hear from the scammers again.

I'm not saying this is what is happening to you, but do your due diligence to ensure that it isn't.

      Thanks everyone for the response.

@rosetrees: Thanks for the heads up. GoDaddy is the person that is pursuing me for this buyer. Though, I'd assume there legit, I'm always on my toes with this stuff. Thanks again!

Surf for "Appraisal scam" and if you find the same template as you get then you could be sure it is appraisal scam. If not, great.

I am experienced in this field, but could not tell you how to proceed as I dont know the name of domain and dont have info about the buyer.

Give them a bit higher counter offer. You never know how high a potential customer will go. Without knowing what the domain is and how much they offered, that's the best I can do.

GoDaddy sells domains, I didn't hear about them contacting people to buy their domains.

There is a very big chance this is scam.

I suggest you look at the email message very careful - does it really comes from a @godaddy.com address?

You can also call GoDaddy and verify the authenticity of the request.

You dont have to be affraid if it is a scam. Dont click on links in email, and dont buy appraisal. If you agree about the price, use escrow (the best Escrow.com with fees on buyer) and thats it.

Could you tell how many letters domain has, how many words, which extension, which other extensions are registered, from which country is buyer, is it individual or company, what was their initital offer....?

Write back that you have plans for that domain and that you dont want to sell it unless you get an offer you cant refuse. Just that, without "let me know" or similar ending. If the buyer is really interested you will get another email soon. If not, $x offer is not worth your time.

Sorry but perhaps I didn't explain myself or you guys missed it.

They gave me a dollar amount already. I called the GoDaddy number they provided and waiting to hear back from them.

Godaddy's domain buying service is legit and anonymous purposely. If you haven't counter offered yet, shoot me a PM with the name and offer if you are inclined, and I can tell you if you leaving any $$ on the table....

The main issue is the name of domain and offer amount. If you get any offer for xtqwk.com then you should accept. If you get $100000 offer for cars.com, then you should not accept.

By calling them you put yourself in bad position for negotiating. Now GoDaddy broker is aware that you are hooked up.
