Hi,
i am interested in finding out if anyone is doing well financially in terms of media buying. What are the positives and negatives. Can you throw some light on the pitfalls and how to do media buying effectively.

Thanks

    Hi Drunkenmonkey,

seriously though .... from what I have heard its easy to lose your shirt making wrong decisions in media buying. Just wanted to learn from the wiser minds within the forum to at least provide a basic foundation to proceed.

Get a new adwords account and don't use it. 2 weeks later you'll get a $100 voucher from Google.

It's easy to make new adwords accounts without any problems from Google

I just got 2 $100 vouchers from Google on Friday

But you discover the negatives and pitfalls by doing it...your asking for something no one is gonna tell you.
Dude I saw you sig and all about free speech. With over a 300 post count you should understand that people ask and we answer on this forum. If you don't like the question leave the page. At least the question is not about how to make money online. We are here to help not condemn.

As per the question. If you have got some money to spend then it can work. There are people on this forum who will provide services that will help you at least break even the first couple of times. If you go it yourself be prepared for some losses. I would not do it in the MMO niche if you are just starting..... Really expensive niche to learn in.

Media buying is not uber-noob friendly.

        Really.
Gotta agree on this one mate, if you don't know what mmo (make money online) means you haven't spent enough time reading the forums and products to go anywhere near media buys.

Just to give my example, i run ppc and ppv campaign at 4fig/day level and wanted to try media buys because i taught "well it won't be that different now would it ?" ... lost 1K$ in 4 days without even getting close to break even, and decided I need another year or so learning more about it and being able to afford to lose that much before i go back into it ^^

Media buys need big budget because it goes SUPER fast, volumes are HUGE !
You need something slower to start with mate.

Who said anything about not liking the question chap?

Media buying is my ABSOLUTE frikkin passion chum.

I do it on a relatively large scale.

That was actually advice and just about the best advice as you'll see
        anywhere.

You cannot learn Media Buying out of a book, what works for "Sam" may not
        work for "Jim".

The media buying expanse is stratospherically way too huge for there to be any text
        book way.

If you did any sort of profitable media buying you would have understood my
        response.

You can get pointers...Check out anything by Johnathan Mizel.

        Matt Bacak is another.

Breaking even the "First couple of times" is a success.

In fact to do it the first couple of times is the exception and not the rule...PPC yeah, if I was brand new I could probably break even on the second tier networks, but definately not Media Buys.

Your first 100 attempts will probably nose-dive...maybe not 100 but case in point.

Hey look at all the awesome advice you just gave after someone poked you a bit. Would it have been hard to say that in your first post. My point was about what you didn't say. You never mentioned anything about your experience, or love for that matter. Your response to me helped out the OP more than your first offering. That was all I was saying. I am sure you have cleared up a few things with your response. On behalf of the OP and anyone looking for the same answers on this thread....... Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Certainly is an area I will stay away from.

I won't say that you should stay away from it, just start slow. There are a lot of opportunities out there, start with a good ad network that will give you lots of support. There are plenty of good guides in the WSO section, and you may be able to grab one of those guys as a mentor if you join their program. They are pretty helpful around here.

I apologize for how rude some of our members are here, it's natural for you to have a bit of a learning curve in this industry, but no worries, you'll get it.

      Good luck!
