Can You Give Help To A Newbie ?

Hi all,

I hope I've picked the right thread for a newbie question.

This forum was recommended to me so I hope I some of you experienced members can point me in the right direction in regards to making some income on the internet.

When you look at how vast the internet is, it's a daunting task. At the moment I feel like I'm stuck in the middle a huge maze and I don't have any idea which direction to take.

My knowledge is a bit limited, especially when it comes to building websites etc. I can manage to knock up a basic bog using hubpages, and I can put together a basic website using freewebs, but I don't know how to use html.

I've opened a google adsense account, and I understand how it all works, and I've been reading various articles on affiliate marketing.

As I said, my knowledge is very limited, so my questions to you all are as follows :-

1. Can I make some decent income with my limited knowledge of website building etc ?

2. If you were starting out from scratch, which path would you take ? Adsense ? Affiliate Marketing, etc ??

3. Is there a plan or blue print that you would recommend ?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Build a blog
Sign up as an affiliate for some best seller Clickbank products
Drive traffic to your queeze page and send them over to your affiliate website.

this way you learn
1. List building
2. Traffic Tactics
3. Blogging and relationship building
4. Affiliate marketing

and then make some money with it!

If you feel you require HTML, visit HTMLGoodies dot com
or some other tutorial site and learn a bit each day.

If you know how to develop a squidoo lens or hub pages,
you can start with that. Affiliate marketing makes money
but it requires work to get things setup.

Hang around this forum for a couple of weeks and you
too will be an expert

I am also a newbie but one of the most important things I have learned so far is don't over analyse! Put up what you have to the best of your ability and focus on making adjustments. Always working on driving more traffic and increasing conversions. You'll never be able to do that if you don't start.

Hi John, Driven247 has some sound advice - it doesn't have to be perfect you just have to get it going.

There are several things you could do from here but your best bet is to pick one, learn it to the best of your ability and then use it.

Adsense is great for sites that get lots of traffic who aren't jaded by seeing the ads on the side of the page. You're better off selling ad space on your site after getting the traffic.

Affiliate marketing is a better bet for earning your first $$$ soon. Try reading at http://www.bummarketingmethod.com/ - totally free course by Travis who is fun to read too.

Ros Gardner's book on affiliate marketing - The Super Affiliate is a must for those who want to be affiliates and do well.

The options are to have your own information product or service or sell someone else's. In the begining it's best to sell someone else's so you can learn marketing before figuring out conversion ratios. Marketing someone else's product means putting yourself in front of the traffic and sending them to the affiliats's page - they take care of the conversion. Bum Marketing is a great first course at that.

The best tips are:
1. Take action - it doesn't have to be perfect
2. Learn something and make sure you know how to use well
3. Don't think you have to know everything today - the 'gurus' didn't become gurus overnight.
4. Don't give up! You have help here -
5. Use the search function on google - when you know what you want to learn - say affiliate marketing type in your search on google and use the forum as the site -
I believe this is the way "Affiliate marketing site: www.warriorforum.com" wihtout the quotes and you'll get listings of posts from the warrior forum. Also type in The Warrior Forum *the location of the 'old' forum where lots of great information still resides.

As a newbie, I would suggest you to start with something that is guaranteed to pay you. That way you can buy some ebooks, get a coach, buy a website or follow some of the suggestions above, but at least you will be making some money.

This will only work if you are form the USA, so if you're not, then you will need to find something else. Join Associated Content and get a Paypal account if you don't have one. Then just start writing articles and submit them as exclusive content, which means Associated Content will have the right to them.

You will get paid about 4$ per 400 words article, so just try to write 10 in a day and that's 1000$ for your first month. During that time, try to educate yourself on IM, choose a way that you find interesting and follow it.

If you want to write articles faster, get Dragon Naturally Speaking, as you should be able to speak faster than you can write, so making 10 articles per day should be a piece of cake and you will get faster with time.

To get an idea on what to write, just visit Ezinearticles or Goarticles and get some ideas from there, but make sure what you write is 100% unique.

Well I just hope you're from the US, or else my whole post is useless to you, but at least it can help other newbies from the US.

One piece of advice: Don't buy anything until you learn the basics. You can buy guides for more specific tasks later on but most "beginner" guides are fairly expensive and not worth the money since you can get most of that info for free.

Well I just hope you're from the US, or else my whole post is useless to you, but at least it can help other newbies from the US.

I disagree, Alex84. You can get a Paypal account, write and sell content, use Naturally Speaking software and scan the article directories for ideas without being in the US.

Now, you might not be able to sell articles to Associated Content if you're outside the US, but you can grab jobs over at some of the freelance services sites like Elance and others mentioned here in the Forum. It's a quick and easy way to start making a few bucks to get rolling.

The best tip I can give newbies, however, is to start small. Don't try to do it all at once, and don't give up too soon.

1) find a good product to market
2) try 1-2 marketing tactics (ie: article marketing and Squidoo)
3) Monitor your results over several weeks and make adjustments as necessary.
4) Once you start making money, expand to other marketing tactics and find another product and start all over.

Remember that it all takes time. You put up an article, but it can take 3 days or more before you will see any traffic from it. It can take 1-2 weeks (or more) before you see your first sale. Just don't get discouraged.

As you progress, expand your marketing knowledge and tactics, find new hot products and repeat as often as you like.

From experience, I can tell you that it is almost crucial that you make money early on or you will likely lose confidence in the process. Staying focused will make it happen sooner than later.

I'm going to give you contrarian advice to 99% of the people here. What you choose to do with it is up to you.

In my experience the very first thing a newbie should be studying is not internet marketing but rather direct marketing. Particularly the fundamentals and psychology behind why people buy products and services, and most importantly what it takes to get them to respond.

Important point: this is not rocket science!

Customers are people. Their motivations for buying and what it takes to get them to move are not hard to figure out. But you must become a student of this if you want to succeed in IM.

Things I suggest reading:
- Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins
- How to Make Millions With Your Ideas - Dan Kennedy
- Almost any book by Seth Godin - Purple Cow, All Marketers Are Liars, etc.
- Get a subscription to Response Magazine

Most people think the IM industry is primarily about the internet. I'm here to tell you it is not. This industry is about marketing first, internet second.

Everyone will tell you to learn about building web pages, blogs, html, search engine optimization, adwords, etc. etc. You don't need to learn *any* those things to be successful - I have others do most of it.

Sure, you'll end up learning some of them. But if you only learn marketing and none of the technical stuff you will be far more successful than doing it the opposite way.

  Pick a subject, start a blog, start writing, learn basic on how to promote it, get some traffic.

  Making websites is easy. Just make your website in Microsoft Word and save it in html format. It's great for making landing pages.

  To John and other newbies reading this...
  
  Two things that we (as newbies - I'm a relative newbie) need is knowledge and money. We need knowledge to...well...know what we're doing. And money to invest in our education and training as well as infrasturcture costs (web hosting, autoresponders, etc.).
  
  So, here's my recommended 3-step "Quick Start" plan...
  
  1. Go to your library and/or bookstore -- and study direct marketing (I agree with Ken), Internet marketing, the Internet in general, and business in general. However much you need to study is based on what you know at the outset.
  
  Some good books to get you started...
  
  "Hypnotic Writing" by Joe Vitale and/or "Triggers" by Joe Surgarman
  
  "The E-Code: 33 Internet Superstars Reveal 43 Ways to Make Money Online Almost Instantly - Using Only Email" by Joe Vitale and Jo Han Mok
  
  "Internet Riches" by Scott Fox
  
  And then anything by Jay Conrad Levinson, Yanik Silver, Mitch Meyerson, and others - some of whom hang out here in the Warrior Forum.
  
  2. Go through Warrior Forum and through the Internet in general - and get your hands on all the free stuff you can. Sign up for email lists from some of the Internet marketing superstars (again - many of them hang around here).
  
  Basically...learn everything you can.
  
  3. Start writing! It's the most important skill you can master as an Internet marketer. And why not get paid while you learn?
  
  I recommend signing up with AssociatedContent.com, Helium.com, Suite101.com, or some of the other paid writer sites. Learn keyword-rich Internet writing. Pick a site, and then do your best to churn out about 100 keyword-rich, 400-600 word articles on various niches.
  
  You'll be surprised how much you learn in researching keywords, putting those articles together, tracking page views, etc. And you can build up some $$$ in doing that.
  
  I make over $200 a month RESIDUAL income at one of the above sites. (I'm not allowed to disclose which one). It's not a lot of money, but it helps. And it's increasing. Some writers (at the same site) make over $1,500 a month!
  
  Basically....you want to get the snowball rolling. When you start, the snowball is small and hard to shape and get going. But once it starts rolling, it's fun!

  I really believe the call to action- take action theory. There is enough free information from this forum to be able to do that, even in this post alone. I'll be the first to throw my hat in the ring and say that I started with no list, no website (just a blog domain) and I had a list of almost 150 people, a website and my first $200.00 in sales in less then 2 weeks once I "took action".
  
  I actually created a 30 page case study that I am more then happy to share with you that shows step for step what I did if you are interested you can PM me and in less then a month I have a membership site.
  
  My point is, it can be done- just pick a path and move!

  If I was just starting out, I would pound away on education.
  
  I think most people waste way too much time on concepts, or short term "what's happening now" opportunities. SEO, html, blogs, all that can change. You can spend months or years doing things that don't work.
  
  Buy courses, books from Claude Hopkins, D Kennedy or other gurus/experts mentioned. Why are they successful? Go deep.
  
  Look at similarities. They do relatively "simple things".
  
  It takes time to build knowledge. I'd rather spend 6 months going through a seminar course or tape set, than making a $100, $250 here and there online.
  
  Education first gives you an advantage. If you can spend $700 or $1,200 on really good courses, books, tapes. You're ahead of those that don't have the money/education. Much better than being one of 50,000 who do adwords or write articles.
  
  Then if you can get more exclusive seminars and tapes. One of 500 or a 1,000. how many other people in the world are listening to exactly what you're listening to now?
  
  That's why alot of people are constantly looking for tapes, seminars, old tapes. That's how you get better.
  
  But there are other approaches, you can still make money. Just one opinion.

I highly recommend Chris Rempel's The Conduit Method. With the reasons behind it, it works well online. Simple to create, especially for newbies.

I always prefer to use a free html editor. You don't need to know html code. You just type like you would in a word processor and all the code is done for you in the background. The program I use is called NVU.

Hi John

There is so much to learn and you've had some very good advice so far.

I've been learning more about html in the last few days. Although I had learned some of the very basics a while back, I tended to learn it on a need to know basis. At the moment I'm concentrating on creating links without using a html editor.

A tip I learned many, many years ago was that if you want to learn something then go to the children's section of a library and if the topic you want is there, it'll be in very basic language. (This was in the days before I discovered computers).

What I did was a google search for html for children tutorial and found this site (no affiliate link) Learning HTML for Kids of All Ages although there are many more. For some reason I can't always figure out html so this sort of site is ideal for me :-)

I then set up a folder for Tutorials in Favourites and any time I want a tutorial I google '..... tutorial' and add it to the folder.

Sorry if that was all a bit long-winded but hope some of it helps either you or other newbies.

Aff Marketing --> Clickbank products

3. Is there a plan or blue print that you would recommend ?

Yes. Chose clickbank products, go to squidoo and make lenses, write reviews/articles 750+ words...and put the aff links in it.
Go and social bookmark the *** out of the squidoo lens.

This is quick and easy for a start.

Dont wait till you learn everything before you get started. After learning the basics as mentioned above,start from somewhere.You will learn it more when are are doing it and you can always correct your mistakes. All the best

  I think the this part of being a newbie, not knowing where to start when you have no confidence in your self is that make it break it period. Right there is the point where someone says that "its too hard" or "this will never work for me". That's where I am finding myself and I realize that it is my own mind set holding me back. I just printed out the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I have heard this book recommended by so many people. I think its time to give it a shot.
