Online Internet Marketing Degree Question

Anyone ever take any of these courses? I see them offered by Univ of San Francisco, Full Sail Univ, and some others.

I've been doing affiliate marketing online parttime since 2000 and it basically just makes me some extra cash. I have a full time job which I like and pays me a nice salary, but I am looking for something to take me into my next career as I near retirement age.

Anyone have an opinion from their experience?

My feeling is that you will get much less practical information in those courses than you would on the WF.

For online marketing, your clients will not be asking for any degree so it is safe to go without it if you think you are knowledgeable enough.

Clients ask about your experience as well as your portfolio

The aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous. The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well that the product or service fits him and sells itself.....

This was a great question and something I was considering myself. I guess it just comes down to getting experience and probably more important, getting results.

ha ha, that's true. The university is trying to get in on the marketing niche using their
notability as an institution to get client/students.

You'll get great courses for less on the forum that can net you more money, and faster.

Once I had a mentor I made over 35K in my first year, and to date 3 years later, over a hundred. Still room for improvement tho

It is noble that you are thinking about expanding your education and want to keep learning.

That said, this is definitely a field where a degree is not that relevant. You can be a Ph.D. who keeps chasing rainbows and BSO's, or simply have a high school diploma and be laughing all the way to the bank.

Truly, with IM -- the "proof is in the pudding", i.e. - the bank account.

I would not be sucked into thinking that a degree will make you more successful, but if you're doing it for the right reasons and with the right set of expectations, it might be beneficial. Only you can make that call.

You also might want to check how successful the instructors are themselves. Learning from a teacher who is teaching only theory is far different than working with a mentor who is actually DOING (and SUCCEEDING) on a daily basis. Your money might be better spent on a one-on-one coaching/mentorship program with an already successful IM'er.

  • real life experience always is often more valuable than a degree. case in point: my brother is a carpenter but he doesn't have a ticket, but he knows far more than most carpenters that do have tickets. In Sept. he writes a challenge exam which will make him a ticketed carpenter.

What I find quite often is that education takes the ability to think freely away from people so they be come book smart, but have no common sense.

Just stick with information that you learn here on WF, or purchase a good internet marketing course (Traffic Secrets 2.0, Internet Marketing Center, Bring The Fresh, etc). MUCH MORE inexpensive.
