Bloggers & Blog Readers: Bite sized or ultra-complete articles?

As readers and bloggers, which do you think works best and why:

1. Ultra-complete articles which focus on a topic and all sub-topics involved (Generally 5000 words+, 5+ informational images, reference links, possible videos, etc)?

Example: http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/10/29...online-monster

2. Taking above and making 4-5 Bite sized articles centering on a specific topic/sub topic (Your standard blog post: 600-1100 words, 1-2 info images, references & additional links are rarer than above)?

Example: http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/ho...iliate-income/

Clearly this question is quite open ended and has a lot of variables, but, if you could just give me your personal preference as a reader and blogger, that would be great for this discussion.
