Did I get this Right!? - Squidoo Lense

Hey There!

I am really new to squidoo but I wanted to take on the challenge of posting a new lense everyday. So I just published my first one. I want to know if I got it right with the way I presented it....

Any tips, tricks, advice or thoughts are welcomed.

3 Reasons Why It Is Essential For Content Sites To Use Adsense

It looks pretty good to me. I have been interested in squidoo lenses since i noticed them outranking most of my amazon blogs. How do you plan to get traffic?

I have several lenses that I used basic seo to build. Two of those lenses get more traffic with basic seo then all my websites that I did advanced seo on. If you got the right niche and great content Squidoo still has some authority. And I am making money from those lenses as well. The best part about Squidoo it is free.

You would be better off investing in a domain/hosting and publishing your articles on your site. THEN you can post them onto Squidoo, having a link back to your site.

It doesn't work that way. If the content is elsewhere, it won't be accepted onto Squidoo.

Here are my tips for the lens:

      1. You need to have image credits posted for every image, linking back to where you got it. Squidoo locks lenses if you don't credit your images (or if you don't have permission to use them).

      2. One of the great things about Squidoo is that you can get people interacting with your lens. Put up a poll or quiz module to get people more interested.

      3. Outgoing links are SO important. Click outs are one of the biggest factors in lensrank and you have little to nothing for them to click on. You can put in an Amazon module linking to books about Amazon or link to some guides from ClickBank or JVZoo. You can link to related blogs or other lenses. You want to give people things to click on.

If you want to PM me I can help you out more. Squidoo is a big part of how I generate traffic and I make a nice bit of money there as well. I'd love to help you out.

Well that is the ultimate plan - I just wanted to establish myself on Squidoo before I started sending links around to my blog. I did the same thing with my Reddit account and was quite successful with it.

What is a lensroll? I'm gonna have to Google it... hahaa

My main point is that time is better spent using the content on your own site.

That really depends. Squidoo can be great for generating traffic. You can make money promoting Amazon products without needing an Amazon affiliate account. You write a few lenses about a topic and switch to a new one without needing to build a new site.

Sometimes I'm really into something and I just want to write one lens about it and make some money. No reason to build a whole site around it.

It can also be helpful for testing out a niche or topic to see how many buyers out there.

Another great reason to use Squidoo... double exposure. If you can rank your lens easily, you can rank your own site easily. What is better than being number one in Google? Having your site be number one and your lens be number two.

Time is an investment either way you look at it. When it comes to writing your own content, Squidoo is a great place to post your work because of the benefits.

You'll earn money from your content, promotion from your content and even backlinks.

I believe that squidoo is a wonderful place to post content and it's well worth writing for them.

Personally I would highly suggest having your own website and putting up your articles there. That way you have complete control of the content of your page. The problem I have with Squidoo is that there put up a huge amount of their own ads around and even within your lenses. This could distract visitors away from your own page and its links

The reason we use Squidoo is it is highly SEO Friendly, if you do basic seo well on the research keyword, less competitive keyword then your keyword would rank higher, this is the main benefit.

To be honest, to really get good answers on your Squidoo lenses you should probably post them in the Squidoo forum. The reason is because there are less serious Squidooers here than in the forum (where practically that's what everyone else is also doing). In addition, here are internet marketeers with different mindsets, and their tips will be somewhat different from what you will get 'over there' (with exception of Amanda from what I see, she's an avid Squidooer as well).

For example people here talk about 'articles' and 'article lengths'. That's one thing that people who are serious with Squidoo will never talk about simply because it's not how Squidoo 'works'.

Also for example, I've seen here a few lenses posted over the years with 2 modules, one video and a guestbook and practically everyone said 'it's an awesome lens, well done'. Lens which was locked by Squidoo HQ months or weeks later... *shrugs*

You know what that makes a lot of sense - I just joined up a forum that Amanda recommended to me. Also, I'm really looking to create quality content on Squidoo so I wouldn't go create something with two terrible modules and then go promote it - I want to be successful not a spammer :-). I know you weren't saying I was a spammer, I just wanted to point out that my intention is golden!

As for others commenting on having your own site. I do have my own sites but was looking to do something different - I don't always have time to drive traffic to my webpages - its constant work and just because I'm working on Squidoo doesn't mean I can't do other things in the same day too.

This summer my days should look something like this:

      1/4 Squidoo
      1/4 Hubpages
      1/4 Article Writing
      1/4 My Own Sites

      This stuff isn't mutually exclusive

You're right, definitely not. If I had thought your lens is spam, trust me, you'd know it

I don't know enough about Squidoo's benefits, so I shouldn't really have a view on what people should do. Just in my opinion, I'd rather have my own website because I have 100% control over it and what happens. Maybe I'm just a control freak.

Oh ya, having your own site is great. Squidoo has its own benefits and there are tons of ways it can be used effectively but there are definitely some situations where your own site is better. That is why I made sure to list some of the benefits of Squidoo for you!

I write on Squidoo for topics which I do not want to build a full-blown website on. For example, I may be interested about Olympics 2012 but I definitely do not want to build a website around it cos it gets outdated fast. However, if I create a Squidoo lens on this topic, I'd probably get good traffic during that time. Probably 4 years later, I can change the title to Olympics 2016 (given that I don't include the date in my domain) and revive the lens.

Squidoo is also a good place to test out a niche. If you are not sure whether you want to go into a niche, create a few lenses around the topic and see how's the response. Look at the stats for ideas about what people are looking for. When you are ready to build your blog, add a RSS module to create backlinks and direct traffic to your new website.

Squidoo is very suitable for beginners who are not experts in SEO. If you build your own website and if you want to earn you must be SEO expert. Not easy to get to top positions on Google.

Much easier to get onto the top position with Squido lenses. Also you need less work. For one lens you need only 200 words article. Beter for you is if you have at least 400 words text.

    It looks good.

Squidoo is great when you add to your lenses too, so if you get tired of creating a new one each day, adding a lot of modules will get you ranked for a lot of long-tail keywords.

A lot of people have said that you should have your own domain. I half agree. Squidoo IS awesome, but it has drawbacks.

If you end up with a lot of traffic to your lenses (it's totally possible to get a ton of traffic to a Squidoo lens!) then you are kind of at their mercy.

They can take your lens away from you. It likely won't happen, but it could. Also, if you find that you are having a hard time monetizing your lens, you can't do much testing because you have to follow their rules.

    Hi Jaysmine,

The lens looks good and you are already getting comments, which can really help your rankings, so congratulations!

What you can also do is embed a video into your lens and make it more interesting that way. Lenses with related videos also tend to rank much better in the SERPs.
