When building a mailing list should you try to collect names?

I'm new to email marketing, and I have been Googleing trying to find out if it would be best to try and collect names to go with an email address when building a mailing list.

I've seen it done both ways, but I was wondering if it helps to have more of a personal touch within the email itself?

No, conversions are higher without the names.

The myth is that you need a "name" to help build a relationship or rapport.

The reality, is that everyone knows that its a gimic, they know that its automated, etc.

Whats more important than saying "Hey, [name]!" every time is the tone of your e-mail.

Its the TONE of your e-mail and the VALUE that you provide in your e-mails that will build rapport and a relationship.

Collecting names has its ups and downs.

There is a lower conversion rate when you add more information for people to fill out.

However, a personal touch to emails can be nice. But, in my personal testing having the name has not increased conversions in sales or clicks.

Hope it works out well for you
