You can use PayPal to buy from almost everyone by just using the single use credit card feature. Using this restricts the number of times you give out your own credit card info.

Yes, Hostgator is pretty good, mainly because of the service and price. (I actually don't use it, but a successful marketer I know does so for years and is happy).

Over the years I have discovered that there are always going to be some technical issues with the hosting, even if just minor... then it all comes down to good and fast service to fix it... or... you can begin pulling your hair out because your seite isn't working JUST when you need it most...

I have changed few hosts in the past, because of slow/incompetent customer service... but am happy now... Hostgator has good support and that's a big plus.

I've also found Hostgator to be the most reasonably priced for hosting.

By the way, Hostgator also does dedicated servers if you grow bigger, but they don't advertise it.

Also, if you google-search the term Hostgator, you'll find all kinds of sites with various discount coupons.

(Just a tip I learned about AFTER I signed on with them.)

To answer your question....there are many levels on Hostgator which you can purchase. To get the most "bang for your buck" I recommend the reseller account, even if you are not reselling. Its $25 a month and you get to host unlimited domains with them. If you get 2 of the smaller pkgs, it only gives you 2 domains hosted but reseller account is unlimited. It allows you to continue hosting sites and move forward with your business. It will save you money in the long run. Hope this helps.
