No tags on YouTube videos?

As we all know, YT marketers are tops at creating tags for their videos. I went in search of some...and found nada.

The tags are gone (or at least invisible) on my own videos as well. In case hiding tags is a new setting, I logged out. Still no tags.

Has anybody else noticed this?

    I haven't noticed.

I started using YT less and less since they implemented the last channel changes.

You mean the way the channel looks? I don't like that either.

I recently read a report about those channel changes...They actually increased channel subscribers by 50% across the board. There was another benefit to changing, but I can't remember what it was exactly.

The point is, YT did a lot of testing and those changes were actually very beneficial to channel owners.

oh WOW - that is new to me, I didn't even notice that happen. I haven't uploaded any new videos lately, do you still have the option of inputting them?

Would be good to know if they're invisible or if they're just gone. Looks like we'd have to beef up the description if that was the case.

On a positive note, some of my videos rankings recently jumped up to the top spot, I wonder if this has something to do with that?

Definitely something I'll look more into.

Now that you mention it, it does look like Youtube is hiding the tags.

I'm guessing they didn't want people to just copy the tags from other people, but it could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all.

  • The hidden tag phenomena appears to be fairly recent. Possibly a day or two ago? Unless its a glitch, we should expect to hear something more official from YouTube Soon.

Yes I noticed that. I don't know why YT is doing this But I think the main reason is to protect the copy of tags.

Could youtube have actually removed tags, and what effect will this have? And can someone share the method, how to see youtube video tags?

I noticed this last night. I thought it was a glitch. Most likely done to protect tag copying

It seems to be a fact that the tags have been removed from "the public eye".
They are still there (you can enter them and see the in the source) but no
    longer visible.

Google "youtube tags" and set to 24h...

It would make sense to hide them from the views. They can be very untidy; and personal to the owner..

However, I feel the owner should see them to remind them of what they were. I know we can always used the source file, but that is not the point.

I am assume they are still key to the video being ranked; unless they are going to concentrate on the title, description and the captions which I hope we can still edit.

I am just trying to see their logic. Gordon

    Hey guys

I think tags have been hidden simply. Just try to upload a new video, you can add tags but they won't appear for public. They're still working.

    Thanks

As of 2 days ago, tags are hidden. Nothing changes with SEO, just stops people from stealing other's tags etc.

I'm glad they did it, wasn't really any point for the average viewer to see them anyway.

Perhaps not, but it was useful to me as a keyword suggestion tool for venues other than YouTube.

You can still look at the tags... just do a right click on the main video view page (outside the video itself)... look into the source code...and find the meta tag "keywords"... it's near the top.

meta name="keywords" content="look here to see the tags"

Thanks for this...I ckecked the source code for the meta keyword tag for one of my videos, then compared the tags I used for the video, and yes, they match.

Although, the meta keyword tag seems to only use the first 150 characters or so of the tags, so there is a limit and it's probably best to make sure your best tags are listed first.

And this brings up a question: Why does Youtube use the meta keyword tag when Google doesn't use it? Interesting.

            You're welcome, Kurt.

I suppose that the tags in youtube have gotten abused in the same way they have been abused on regular pages back in the day. Google the term "replygirl" ...that should give you a good impression. Or I may point out an article in the huffington post from back in March.
I'd expect we will see the tags being devalued ...or maybe they are already.

Seems like a waste of time on Youtube's part, since you can still find the info. Sure a few marketers will not steal your keywords at first, but then I'.m sure someone will make a video soon showing where to find the tags.

    I started noticing that too...

Maybe it's because a lot of people were "stealing" the top videos tags in hopes to out rank them.

A lot of top YouTubers actually tell their viewers to stop stealing their tags.
