Hi There,

Just looking for some help on understand how to read site statistics.

which of the following is the best representation of how many visitors my site is getting a month.

Why is there such a difference and which should trust?

Using Cpanel accel v2.

Using Webalizer - July 12

Hits = 25,000
Visits = 2,000

using Awstats - July 12

Unique visitors= 760
Hits= 12,000
Number of visits= 1470

Using Google Analytics July 12

Visits = 51
Unique Visits = 49
Pageviews = 64

So which is the real indicator of site visitors ? and why is there such a difference?

    Not really sure why such big differences but i would trust mostly Google Analytics. Why don't you set up statcounter and compare results it should be the same as Analytics.

      I would go with Google Analytics. The accuracy is necessary if you really want to know about your traffic.

    Go with Google. I think the others can include spiders/bots that visit your site when you update/change things in addition to the potential customers.

    Few things that could be causing this:

    Awstats and Webalizer work by analysing logs on your server which means if your server is in a different timezone to you, those 2 programs will work from server time whereas GA will work from your timezone.

    GA works by loading Javascript which means if a visitor doesn't have javascript enabled then they won't count. Same if they close the browser before the GA javascript loads.

    The big thing as mentioned above though is that GA doesn't count crawlers in the stats.

      Spot on! I personally use a mixture of AWstats and GA

    Try to stick to one counter that is Google analytic and the figures they display are more close to be accurate.

      It's essential mate. You wouldn't open a shop and then not pay attention to if people come in!
