Confused about Redirecting Domains

Hi all,

I would like to build a Wordpress blog with a domain that I bought 2 years ago. The domain was redirected to my affiliate link which points to the home page of a merchant.

Today, I read that Google penguin penalizes domains which are redirected to another website because Google sees this as duplicate content. So, if I use this particular domain to build my new blog, will it make my blog difficult to rank?

If later, I create a subdomain and redirect it to my affiliate link. Will my whole blog get penalized?

If you use your domain for only your content (without redirecting to another site) then there should be no penalty. Also, I don't believe your entire blog will be penalized if you use a subdomain for redirection purposes. However, I don't think using subdomains are efficient for redirects. You may want to consider simply using simple php redirect urls instead.

I don't know if with a subdomain could have some problem but I don't like that idea, I'd use to provide some good imformation and placing the link there instead

And I don't know what affiliate link you are talking about, but for example amazon doesn't allow that

    Incorrect.

Depends on whether you did a temporary or permanent redirect.

    No.

Oh, I did a permanent redirect but I took the redirect off 2 days ago.
      Will it still affect?

Thanks for all your advice. I have decided to do away with the subdomain redirect. So now, deciding if I can use back this domain to build a new blog or to get a new domain.

There is an easier way to achieve the same thing using WordPress. Do a search for Pretty Links in the plugins once you have WP installed. It will give you an area in the control panel where you can simply add as many links as you like to redirect.

You shouldn't need to get a new domain because of fearing a slap. There are plenty of sites that have bounced back from a slap after getting hacked.....and the owners recovered their ranking because the sites got sorted out.
