You're Missing Out On Easy Money!

Hey guys and gals,

If you have reseller hosting (or the equivalent) you can get a nice bit of residual cash on the side.

How?

It's sickeningly simple but is probably being overlooked.

Just talk to businesses and ask if they want to save on their hosting! Yep - that's all. You'd be surprised how many are paying high prices for standard hosting.

I drop emails to businesses and ask how much they're paying for hosting currently and if they'd be interested in saving some money. Of course they want to save! If they're paying $40 I offer $30 etc.

The other way is to email out a flat rate offer but the first method is more personal and can end up with nicer payouts. Even netting just a few customers is adding to your overall income.

I haven't tried cold calling to sell hosting but I'm sure a friendly chat asking if they'd like to save money and how much they're paying currently might bring in a few customers. Maybe an offer of the first month free could sway it.

Play around with the idea and get earning!

Wow that is simple but potentially very lucrative. Those cold calling skills I acquired a while ago can finally be put to some good use!

If anyone does give it a go (successful or not) I'd love to hear from you. It's so simple yet so effective. A lot of people are giving away free websites etc just to get a hosting deal. This blows that out of the water!

    Hi DP55,

Just wanted to give you a heads up regarding your signature.

    It isn't clickable!!!

Or if you are okay and you already know (MY APOLOGIES).

Yeah I agree with your tip also as hosting is a massive market as almost everyone who owns an online business requires hosting at some stage of their business.

All the best & my apologies if you already know about signature.

Not a bad idea but it could be pain in the ass when it comes to customer support... Let's say you have only 10 customers and somehow your hosting go down... Just imagine 10 people calling you, mailing you etc and asking what's happening... Now imagine 20, 30 or more customers...

I mean, you can make money with this method but be prepared to offer on-time customer support...

It could be a pain, yes. There are risks involved but I've only ever had my hosting go down for 10 minutes and I've been using a reseller account for...lord knows how long. It's a fair point though and you have to be prepared for these things.

      Cheers

Hosting is something I have always wanted to get into but never got around to. It is certainly a nice residual income since most companies don't change hosting accounts very frequently...

This is easily overcome by using a reseller account from a host that offers white label customer support. This means that the customer would always get a professional support person to help them, but they would use your hosting company name when dealing with the customer.

Do a search over at Webhostingtalk to find reliable good hosts that offer those type of reseller accounts.

This is how I would do what the OP is suggesting:

      1. I would search the forums and review sites for hosts that have a reputation for being expensive, having poor customer and a lot of downtime/bad connectivity.

      2. I would then search out websites hosted on that host's servers and do a reverse IP check on them through Domaintools. That will reveal any other websites hosted on the same IP. You then go through the entire Class C IP range to find the other sites on that server. Now you have your list of leads.

      3. I would write a convincing sales letter explaining why my hosting service is far superior to their current host, as well as cheaper. I would be careful not to be too negative about their current host, but perhaps give a couple of small hints, (and maybe even links) to show their poor reputation. Make sure not make any untrue statements about their current host that could come back to haunt you, and DO realize that their current host WILL see your sales letter at one point or another, so write it with that in mind!

      4. I would offer the companies to move their websites for free if they wanted that service. I would probably also offer them to try my hosting service for free for a month to show them that I can deliver as promised.

      5. I would then have a kick-ass programmer ready on stand-by to help me deal with the moving of my new customer's websites to make sure everything went smoothly.

      6. I would continue to take great care of my customers and really show them that I appreciate their business. I would do this by offering free advice on things like SEO etc. (mixed with the odd affiliate link for a great tool of course... ). Stuff that most hosts either don't bother with, or charge extra for.

      7. Build it up to a nice level of monthly income and then sell the whole thing as an ongoing business.

I believe the most important point will be to go with a top-quality hosting provider in the first place because if things go really wrong at some point you risk losing a lot of customers in one go...

It's nice to make affiliate commission from web hosting companies and all, but residual income is a really beautiful thing... That's why the web hosting business model has always appealed to me.

So many opportunities and so little time...if there were only more hours in the day!

Another point to consider if he gets 10 paying clients he can than Up-sell them on other products. So he can lead into saving the business owner money. Than a few weeks later after the customer is saving money he can call and ask if the customer wants to make more money. Than he can offer PPC, SEO, Update web-site's and more.

So even if hosting does go down at a later date he can always fix that problem,ASAP and still retain their business !

That's a very nice strategy to do. I just wonder why only a few people do it and much less share it with others. Well, it may have something to do with the fact that it's not as easy for everyone to be business minded and charismatic enough to face other (usually higher class) business owners. It is very much hard to acquire and less likely to be born with the great charisma and skill to do the move that you do (at least in my opinion).

With that said, it is a fact that its very good idea and it is one of the strategies with the highest potential for returns out there.

The Real Deal, that's a great information and you are right, there are solutions for that problem, of course... However, anyone who jumps into this business should be aware of this potential problem and prepare himself upfront...

DP55, a 10 minutes downtime is not a problem... That simply happens and in most cases websites are up and running before anyone can notice they are down... That's especially the case with better hosting companies... However, a few years before I was doing something similar and everything was good until that web hosting provider had some serious crash of their servers and it took them a couple of days before they put everything up again... Those couple of days were enough for me to go out and find other (easier) methods of recurring passive income...

Anyway, for someone who want to work in web hosting industry, this is a pretty good idea... just be prepared and covered...

Sounds like a lot of work but if there's money to be made at the end of the day then it is worth it.

I would use Hostgator for reseller business and not worry about customer service too much.

On the other hand it seems to be what a lot of companies do though, so maybe it will work for you too! :p

Nice. Reminds me of the old days when phone companies constantly called people to try to get them to switch to their phone service. ATT vs Sprint etc. When I was a teenager I did that and got paid $20 per person that I switched their phone service for. I did it in person with a clipboard and signup sheets and the offer. I remember I was so naive then of any etiquette in regards to selling so I'd hit up every person that talked to me. At cafes, at the bars and all drunk people I talked to there, I'd pitch them on switching phone service.
