How to best tie sub-niche sites together?

Hi all, I'm very new to niche sites and had a quick question.

I'd like to target a particular niche and have identified 6 sub-niches within that niche that I want to target individually. It would be nice to be able to have each sub-niche sites tie into the others since there's a high likelihood that the visitors of one sub-niche site would be interested in another.

I was thinking about creating 6 domains with 6 distinct sites that had links to the others but was wondering if it sub-domains or sub-directories would be better. I've heard that these won't be as competitive from a keyword standpoint however so am not sure which way to go.

Any opinions on how to best construct things? Thanks!

Just create a bigger website that deals with 6 of the niches. Create categories and parts of the website for each sub-niche...

    Hi, rriley!

It depends on how big those 6 sub niches are. If they are big (in terms of traffic, content, and products), I would go with six individual domains.

    For small sub-niches I prefer sub-domains.

    That's my way.

If the 6 sub-niche can support your main go for single domain with sub-domains.
It will surely generate huge amount of traffic to your site.

A bigger website will get you LESS traffic, for the same content. Google sends more traffic to more SPECIFIC websites, so the narrower your topic on each site, the more traffic you get. Of course, as you say, you need to make sure your visitors can find the other sites if they are interested, which can be done many different ways.

Best way to do it is if the specific sub-niche products have some disadvantage that a different sub-niche solves, then you can make it clear the advantages/disadvantages of each, on both sites, and give them the informed choice. Other than that, you can make an index of the products on one of the sites, and also list the products on other sites, on that same index, or make one more "umbrella" site which acts as an index to the smaller ones, and gives the visitor the information they need to decide which of your smaller sub-niche sites to go to.

    Hope that helps

    Chris
