Best way to grow a forum?

I have a site where I want to build up a forum. It is a forum for people with a certain disorder, a disorder most people wouldn't want their facebook buddies to know about. Is there a way I can build up this community from scratch? I don't even know where to begin.

    yup.. what is your aim for the forum? eventually? like what contentingwriting360 say.. to make money??

    firstly you might wanna advertise your forum and start off.. and introduce content such as solution or help to the disorder? Constant interaction to keep them at your side.. have contests helps too

      To the OP:

      Working on our content and ensuring that our visitors will read quality content is the first thing we need to consider before we even think of 'other' or 'secondary' ways to monetize a website.

      For example, sometimes, we have clients who directly ask us how they should work on their link building strategy. We advise them that they should check their content first. It defeats the purpose of link building if those people who links to you do not see a reason why they should come back for more.
