Is the Internet Marketing Niche Really Worth It?

I am going to start a new list/lead generation idea I have, but i'm not sure if I should stay in my current niche or go into Internet Marketing, I know many people make a lot of money in IM niche. The question is, is it to saturated with affiliates and guru's?

Internet marketing is a evergreen niche, so even if it's tons of gurus, affiliates and gods there will always be room for you and others.

If you decide on 'Internet Marketing', I would advise to narrow it down to a smaller sub-niche. It can be anything you know : list-building, seo, social networks, affiliate marketing etc. Of course, IM is huge, but I agree with Morten that there will always be enough room for you to succeed.

      Good luck with your plan!

  • Do you have a deep passion for the niche that you are currently in but noticed that everyone in the internet marketing niche seem to be making more money? If that's the case, stick with your passion. If however your current niche is not something that you would miss if you said goodbye, then yes, you should try working with MMO products (making money online) and see how that goes. However, no matter what niche you are into, if you are operating mostly online, then you are automatically "internet marketing" even if your niche is unrelated.

A more important question when it comes to marketing ANY niche is: why and how are you qualified to market products in that particular niche?

Case in point: There are enough wanna be guru's selling the dream of internet marketing...few actually do it themselves. Plus, IM is actually a market, not a niche...a niche would be article marketing or video marketing.

I would focus on scaling your existing business by adding and mastering new channels of traffic, and continue to refine your skills. Once you are making a decent living with that niche, you can venture in the IM niche but you'll be able to provide more value to your subscribers.

You will be more empathetic to challenges Internet marketers face and attempt to help people and not slam them with offers, which will make you like the 90% of apathetic IM niche marketers that lack skills and experience -- yet promise riches. It's quite ridiculous I think, and people have had enough of the Guru wana be's as the above commenter had mentioned.

Nothing is saturated if you have value to give and solve problems.

With our bad economy and people losing their jobs, IM just grows stronger. There will always be room for newbies in this niche.

I agree with the post above when going into the make money niche do your keyword research to drill down sub niches from the big niches you have a better chance for ranking with lesser competition.

I would like to say it depends what nich you are in now are you passionate and enjoy the nich if so stay i that nich as long as there are buyers and there is competition that is always good for your business. The work you will have to do will not seem really like work if is something you enjoy doing.

If your product contains value for customer then I see no problem. There is plenty of space for everyone in the Internet Marketing niche.

Do you care to share what your niche is that does not seem to have much traffic and buyers?

Everyday people come online to make money, but have no idea of how to market their site. Internet marketing will more than likely always be a profitable niche... assuming you know how to market your business in the right way.

it is ok to operate in multiple niches at once, as long as you have a business model that is effective and that doesn't rob you of too much of your precious and valuable time.

    I would:
    1) Become familiar with your competition
    2) Become familiar with whatever you try to market to the IM niche

You should definitely go into IM. There is always room for more, even though there are tons of gurus and affiliates.

Probably the most common and deadly mistake newbies make is chasing money, instead of building a business that lasts.

As Bryan said, spend the first year or two in the trenches so you have some first-hand knowledge and experience before you pretend to be qualified to teach anyone anything about making money online. And trust me, these other niches are wide open - you only have to do a little research to find something you're interested in that also has the potential to monetize well AND quickly.

Most of the first year is going to be one learning curve after another. You need to understand your own strength and weaknesses. You need to master the basic principles and terminology so you'll know what options are available to you. You'll make mistakes and have set-backs. And whatever niche(s) you choose, there will other learning curves for come with them.

You have to know what people want (relief, solutions, results) before you decide whether you can give it to them or not. You also need to know where your target audience hangs out so you can zero in your marketing efforts on them rather than waste 99% of your time, effort, money on dead ends.

Fortunately, there is no hard and fast rule about putting in x-amount of time doing drudge work before you can scale it up or add other niches. For example, one of the college students in our local mastermind group started with what she called "perfectly dreadful" mini-sites targeting adsense. Last December she saw the flaw in her model (premonition of Panda and Penquin) and started transforming the ones she wanted to keep, flipping the rest. Now she's got a handful of serious money-makers that aren't going to be slapped by google because she doesn't need google; she's spending less time on them, adding content weekly; and earning more than she would have on the old trajectory. She's strictly an affiliate, but she's developed an uncommonly impressive product list and sales funnel - and most of it over summer break.
