Got back to over 20,000 visitors a month after starting again.. but..

I sold my last blog to fund something and got back into building new sites in april.

I'm now at around 20k visits per month (unique) but earning VERY little.

Last time I was earning anything from $300 to $600 on 50k uniques.

This isn't just a cry in the dark, I'm wondering if anyone's expert enough out there to advise further.

Traffic Specifics:

Mostly from Google Images
One Adsense Ad Above Fold Above Pictures
On Category Pages - One Adsense Ad In Place of Second Picture of 4.

I've never managed to get traffic so easily, but never seen traffic make so little money either.

Anyone can or care to help?

Buddy the reason you are making so less money is probably because the people who come through google image search are there for downloading the image and not for looking at your site.

You can confirm this by taking a look at the avg. time on site. if it is below a minute then you can be sure thats what is happening.

I had something similar happening to me. For one of my blogs I was getting >1500 uniques a day from google image search for an image of an "evil little girl" which I used as a featured image for a blog post.

Google image traffic is very easy to get specially for certain types of niches. Maybe you're focused too much on traffic and not enough on commercialization?

you need to find out where the real problem is?

do you get lot's of clicks for your offer and not making any sales? if that's so you need change another product with high conversion.

or is it that people don't bother to click your ads on your site? which means you need change the structure of your site and write compelling content so that everyone visit your site would like to visit other links.

Find traffic strategies that drive prospects straight to your money page. Don't have them dance around with images... send them straight to the pitch page or the squeeze page.

Randall, a site that monetises using banner or contextual advertising doesn't have a squeeze page or pitch. The goal is to generate traffic that the advertisers use.

@Intrepreneur, as mentioned above you'll need to shift away from Google Images if you want higher efficiency, otherwise you need to get more images and realise your new traffic isn't worth as much as your old traffic.

You can create a course/series of courses on 'HOW-TO take such a good photos' like you do and monetized from it, you can compile it to eBook(s) or video down your techniques to sold for a prices.

With standard FAQ section for newbie and provide Technical supports to serious player. And ask your good customer(s) to promote your services for you and get paid with some form of commission to build your pipeline...

your visitors visits your web through google image frame where they only see the images they searched for.
few users visit your site others just take images and run away
thats why you have less conversion

  • I agree with the other warriors who posted above, most of the visitors you got from google image are basically looking for some images and may only want to download your image..

I do it myself back when doing my school reports, search for images > click the link then download the image and leave..

Another idea is if your photos/images are great, they may want it badly that you can setup a content locking with CPA offers before they could download the high resolution image. just my 2 cents

Set up image redirection script so that when they try to access your image, it redirects them to the full page content. I've seen some auto blog sites do this

      This has already been done.

I can't believe that 500-100 visits per day are coming through and earning zilch!!

Then the visitors realizes they can't grab the image and they boogie even quicker.

They should be forced to continue beyond the redirection and land on my damn page.

I guess this traffic is useless.

Scratch this and move onto new project.

But the question is whether to leave this 20-50k visit a site month live or kill it.

Flippa? Surely it would be better to sell rather than kill it straight.

Or you could sell CPM advertising space? I know this too is almost dead but it's better than nothing.

You should do split testing like comparing pic 1 and pic 2 to see which one give better conversion rate

What about putting text with your site url on the images? People may see them and actually visit your web page out of curiosity.

Winner of best idea = you.

But this site is all animated gifs, so I can't watermark them easily.

What's the website URL? Let's take a look and see if there's anything useful about it...then we can decide what you should do about it.
