Hi. I'm new here so I apologize if this has been covered extensively in the past, but if I were looking to create a site used for informational marketing, which would be better - a blog or a website? Ultimately, I'd like to build an opt in list where I send new articles (or blog posts) to my subscribership. I don't think I'd write more than 1-2 per week if that makes a difference. I know it's hard to sustain readership on a blog if you don't post daily. Does one do better with search engines than the other? |

Well, a blog can be used as a website, it is very easy to set up and change what it looks like even if you aren't very technical. You can easily add a plugin to help you do almost anything, and it can ping a number of different services each time you post. In fact, you can even integrate it with an email service like aweber (and likely others) so that when you make a post on your blog, it sends out that post to your list and people can subscribe to your rss if they like. The benefits of building a static site from scratch would be ... um, well I can't think of any. |

Would vote for blogging platform. And recommend you use Wordpress. It's solid right out of the box and has more free plugins you could poke a stick at. If you are concerned about your posting frequency, just disable the dates on your theme so that it isn't so apparent how much time has lapsed since your last post. Cheers. |

Several people have recommended SiteBuiltIt to me. Can you build a blog with their service?

I'd have to say Blog simply for ease of use; it is a great way to test a market/niche without having to spend a lot of time developing a static site. Pete |

I started out with blogger and wordpress.com and currenlty have over 100 of them going right now, some active and some just sitting there. I create them and sell information off of them. For me Blogger was the easiest to learn, I can create one in 5 minutes. I am getting quicker on wordpress.com, but for me, wordpress.com has been a more difficult learning curve than blogger. I also have 10 static websites and 2 blogs that I post at least one article every 1-2 days. I still outsource most of my static websites or buy them at sitepoint, as I just don't have the patience or the time to create a static website. ( or the smarts as my wife reminds me of daily, lol) Just start and never look back. dave |
