Kindle Publishing - Is There Expertise In The Room? :)

hi folks,

good morning... well for me, that is.. in california.

this might not actually be a call for expertise exactly...
i think my questions are pretty basic.

i just got wind of kindle publishing
kind of went "wow" as i am completing a dissertation of over 200 pages (grueling and wouldn't recommend it)...

just trying to wrap myself around the kindle concept.. in relation to the ebooks i am familiar with reading/buying on people's websites...

so let's say i was creating an ebook to sell on my website for.... $17 or $27.
i assume i would not sell that very same ebook on kindle for $2.99? (i read that a high selling price point on kindle is $2.99). so.. i could create a different ebook for kindle... in what ways (if any) is it different from the ebook on my website? i am meaning structurally, big pix concept.. not content.

so.. if my point is clear and you catch my drift.. if you are selling ebooks on your website as well as on kindle.. what is the different thought process/concept around this?

thanks much!
nicole

    Kindle royalty structure:
    Free = $0.00; $0.99 > $2.99 = 35%; 2.99 > $9.99 = 70% (less delivery charge of $0.15/MB); $10.00 > $199.99 = 35%.

    It boils down to the subject material and the manner in which its presented. Novels are different than "How to" books. Does the book include images critical to a readers enjoyment? Who is your audience?

    If you have spent serious time on your manuscript, there's lots of ways to play the game and it's worth taking the time to evaluate your options.

    Also, if you just discovered Kindle, carry on with Apple, B&N, and others... or maybe check out Smashwords which covers the waterfront except for Amazon.

      I don't know if you follow Pat Flynn or not at smartpassiveincome.com, but he just recently did a Podcast on Kindle Publishing that I listened to. I thought it was very informative. I am not allowed to post links on here yet, but if you visit the above site you will find it..... Look under Podcast's and you will see the episode from a few weeks ago.

      And just a warning.... after you listen to one of his Podcast's, you will want to listen to all of them. So make sure you have plenty of spare time on your hands!
