Hi guys,
I am new to warrior forum, but I can see that there is lots of useful information around.

Me and my partner are about to start a new website with erotic stories up, no porn ads around. This is where we are confused and in need of advise. If there is no images what so ever on the website, but only stories, is it classed as adult content? We will need to really clarify wether it is so any thoughts or comments would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

In short, yes; erotic stories do qualify as adult content. I am a little surprised you feel the need to ask.

Thanks for the replies, fortunately my host does not see "erotic stories" as adult content, although I am not sure when it comes to things like paypal, so just some insight would be great

Erotic stories would also be classifieds as adult content as you would be use prohibited words, and without using those words, you may not be able to write the story.

Do you plan to write erotic stories for teenagers? If not, then it's for adults....

If they are strongly explicit, then yes. They qualify as adult content.

Be sure to give fair warning to visitors that your site contains adult content. You can describe it in general terms. Go to Amazon.com and type erotica into the search field. Most of the authors there have the types of warnings posted about their books and on their sites I'm referring to.

Yes erotica is considered adult content.

There are some varying ideas on where you should include a disclaimer (such as having site visitors click an Enter button to view your content) when the content is only textual and not image based.

A quick glance at many erotica sites out there don't seem to be using a pop up as a warning, but rather feature one as part as the website footer links.

Yes, it is considered adult content and you will have the same advertising restrictions and legal issues any other site that puts up actual adult images does. This isn't considered a hot nichie anymore. Years ago before the age of video and when most people were still on dial-ups this was a hot niche.

I would say you would have a very difficult time establishing a new site in this niche as the sites that do well in this have been around since those earlier days and have tons of credibility established in the Search Engines. The also all trade traffic with each other, and it would be very unlikely they would let a new arrival into their closed network.

What's happening in this thread is that several people posting are actually giving their own opinion of whether or not it ought to be classified as "adult content".

They're doing that because it is a matter of opinion.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, online businesses' terms of service about this matter, and their interpretations of them, and their policies and procedures, actually vary a lot.

Some businesses are comparatively relaxed about it. Others are anything but. Some won't have anything to do with it at all. Some require warnings. Some require passwords. Others require "none of the above".

The answer to your question "Are erotic stories classed as adult content?" is that they are by some, but not by others.

That may be true, but to the people that matter (advertisers) and (the government) it is the same as any other adult content site.

"Adult Content" is not limited imagery but also scopes words, languages, themes, etc. so erotic stories is definitely within the range.

It will not hurt to clarify from the authoritative body handling your content because the fine prints are almost always really hard to read and completely comprehend.

I would say that anything 18+ would be considered as adult. A call or email to the hosting company will let you know what their thoughts are.

move beyond debate -- this is a very personal topic. if your concern is making money, then i strogly suggest the following business idea for your consideration.

imho, your most practical approach would be to convert your business to Kindle erotica on Amazon. forget your website idea -- its old news (really old!).

do what somebody suggested -- type "erotica" in the search for Kindle books.

and start grabbing free erotica Kindle books from the free lists -- top 100 free.

use their content style and cover designs as solid gold free Kindle market research -- not to mention that this research can be, uh, interesting....

learn from the top 10 or so especially, they are there for a reason. likewise the writers that have repeat winners on the top results page for "bestsellers."

the big secret that is not so secret is that some of this stuff is truly hard-core, not just soft female oriented stuff. its all there, whatever your style, it can be a Kindle cash cow on AMZ.
