Default Helping My 10 Year Old Son Self Publish a Kid's Book

I could use some help identifying cost effective ways to self publish my son's book. He is an avid writer (check out The Best of Lucy). This is one of my top 10 goals for 2009, so I could use the help of some savvy warriors!

Check out Self Publishing - Lulu.com - haven't used them myself but I've heard good things about them.

A friend of mine uses Create Space to publish his books. My information is second hand ( I just design his book covers ). He told me that at Create Space you can get an ISBN and be listed on Amazon. Not sure if that's the case at Lulu.

That's some cool writing coming from a 10 year old! Love the hot dog story.. still laughing.

Like Rich said, createspace.com is probably a good way to start since they take all the hassle off of you and simply take a cut when you make a sale. Your boy just needs to write and you just need to upload to createspace and you guys make some easy cash.

Check the site for details, it may be a tad more involved but that's the general picture.

Createspace is Amazon's self-publishing service. I'd recommend checking them out, except the royalties may seem kind of small. You do get the benefit of Amazon's marketing, though...

I'm tired of my signature... Deleted.

I second Bishop. If you go to Amazon, you will find info on self publishing with them.

I can't read the blurb on the page so I am no help, sorry. Try writing with black on white so most of us can read it without damaging our eyes.

The CBI Clubhouse - a Community for Children's Book Writers Writing Picture Books, Easy Readers, Young Adult Books and More! This is a site that a fellow Warrior has been running for children's book authors. If I remember correctly his handle here is "jonb". Haven't seen him around for a while but his site is very popular and I'm sure that there is plenty of help to be found there.

That's a nice site. I think my grandchildren might get something out of it.

Hi Steve:

Great work by your son. If you are looking at this from a cost point of view Amazon has a company Create Space that will afford you many positive attributes. There is a negative. You will get listed on Amazon, U.S.A. but not the other Amazon's. Currently (unless it changed) Create Space is for the USA listing only.

The good news is if you or anyone can follow their submission guidelines they will publish the book at no cost (excluding you purchasing one proof copy).

If you need advice I am an author as you can see from the link below. Please feel free to send me a private message. It is imperative that your son gets only the benefits out of the experience. The average book only sells 2,000 copies and 98 percent of all authors have 2 jobs. The act of doing makes him a rich man.

Good luck!

I would suggest writing a book that someone else wants to publish...

I use Lulu.com for a few books. Their interface is great and it all works very well for me.
