Default Results of my squeeze page test

Hi all,

Last week I stopped sending PPC traffic to my sales letter and instead sent it to a squeeze page.

Here are my stats:
10% opt-in for my autoresponder
56% of those double opt-in
___
So I'm getting 5.6% "full" conversion to my autoresponder list. I think that with numbers like this it will be hard to get past about a 2% overall sales conversion rate. I need to improve things.

Here is my squeeze page:Talking To Toddlers: Dealing with the Terrible Twos and Beyond | Talking to Toddlers)

Here is my "thank you for subscribing page:
Thank you for subscribing | Talking to Toddlers

My thoughts:

I'm most bothered by the weak double-confirmed rate. 44% of the people who fill out the opt-in form don't bother to double opt-in. That is bad.

As for the squeeze page I know I can improve it through split tests, and I'm seriously considering putting up a Camtasia video to talk through the content of my audio course. I think that would help.

any other suggestions from fellow Warriors?

Thanks.

first off take out the words "illegal" and "jeopardize credibility" in your on page privacy statement. They are not necessary and set off auto-suggestion - like a guy returning home at 5am and declaring that he did not kiss any girls (before he was even asked)

Also I have been a big fan lately of Video squeeze opt-in pages. Would be interesting to see a nice big video box with an optin form on the right. but just a thought...

I like the colors but it needs to be much more concise. In my opinion, AND experience, your squeeze page shouldn't go below the fold and the opt-in box should be near the top.

But, think about this for a second, your fonts are different colors, different sizes, way down the page, the benefits are obscure.

You need to connect with their pain in a large and bold way as fast as possible. Use exclamation points and ask questions.

You might also take this to the copywriting part of the forum.

Have you thought to go to Google and type in "sample squeeze pages" (and be firm to avoid product ads for a while, just look for real examples)?

THANK YOU PAGE: You are missing an opportunity to upsell people, or present an affiliate product. Go to CBENGINE.COM (or wherever you like) and search for something complementary to put on your thank you page.

This is just for starters, go search for "squeeze page samples"

Best wishes,
Eric

Hi Chris,

My initial thoughts...

1. Tell your visitor, right beside the opt-in form, that they need to use a valid e-mail address because they will have to confirm their request before they can get their hands on [insert major benefit - example: this super-easy technique to get your toddler to ??? immediately!]

2. The 10% opt-in seems a little low, as well. Check your keywords to make sure your ad is targeted to people who are looking for an immediate solution rather than a general "help with toddlers" kind of think. I know you're probably already doing this, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention it .

3. This might sound kind of strange, but what kind of conversions were you getting before when you were sending people straight to your sales page? It might be that this market or this product is better suited to going straight to a sales page?

4. This is the last one, I promise . I know a 5.6% "full" conversion to your opt-in seems pretty low, but have you tracked to see what kind of sales conversion you're getting after the opt-in? I only ask this because if you're getting extremely high sales conversions (like 90% or more), then the 5.6% doesn't look too shabby.

I hope something in this list is helpful.

Good luck!

I found those orange and light blue colors in your headline extremely tough on my eyes.

The traditional BRICK RED color for your headline will most likely boost your conversions
on the front end.

I believe the color code is #CC0000

Also, try removing the superscript entirely (To the father who bla bla bla bla) or make it black and 10pt font, then align it left.

And put your intro just below your optin form, not at the very bottom where most
people won't ever make it.

As far as boosting your confirmation rate, I would offer them a surprise bonus
on your thank you page that they will ONLY get if they confirm their email.

Make it a "10 Point Checklist To Ensure bla bla bla"

And split test if you're not already.

Hope This Helps

Hi Chris,

Your Thank-You page tells your readers that they
need to confirm their subscription in order to claim
their "free hypnosis CD downloads"...

...which is not what they signed up for.

(I guess it's based on a template you used in the
other site in your sig)

HTH,
Steve

Steve - Thanks a million for finding that mistake. Yes, I was using it on another site and forgot to update the wording in that section.

I bet my double opt-in rate will rise from 56% to something acceptable now. Thanks again.

Everyone else - fantastic ideas on fixing my squeeze page. I will be split testing them.

You're very welcome

Good luck with the site...as a father who (barely) survived
the "terrible twos" with my sanity intact, you have a great
looking product.

All the best,
Steve

My wife just had a baby not too long
ago. Aren't the 3's just as bad as the
terrible 2's?

I've had success at a 40% opt-in rate
with google adwords traffic by using
the quizpagegenerator software tool.

This is based on Eben Pagan's software
that he released. Your potential opt-in
fills out the quiz and to get their results
they have to enter their name and e-mail.

There doesn't seem to be a clearly emphasized headline -- the headlines are competing against each other.

A couple things:

1) The squeeze page is longer than it needs to be to ask for the name/email, try cutting it down to the biggest benefits and make it shorter/more compelling.

2) On the squeeze page the focus is 100% on getting the free audio lesson, but on the thank-you page the headline says "Thank you for subscribing", and then mentions the audio lesson in smaller type.

Maybe de-focus the "thank you for subscribing", and stress the final step they still need to do to get the audio. (On a side note, maybe the free subscription should be briefly mentioned on the squeeze page, if done right it may even increase sign ups.)

EDIT: One more thing, your thank-you "please confirm" page has a link to your blog articles at the bottom:

"Also please check out my Parenting Blog for additional articles."

...Are you getting clickthroughs from there to the blog? If getting them subscribed is the critical point, you're probably better off removing links to your content before you get them confirmed into your newsletter. (That's up to you of course)

One more on here - try adding a second opt-in form on the side of your "thank you" page. Little bit of text like "please double check you have entered the right email address - to avoid spamming anyone, I can only send this incredible information to a validated email address" - sure someone else can come up with something even more powerful than that.

Got this idea from the Aweber training - they report up to 50% of the "lost" optins putting their valid email address into the second form.

Hi Chris.

I have a few suggestions.
- The colour of your titles is not as impact-full as it could be
- You need to make your optin box stand out more
- Create a graphic that represents the free audio lesson
- Add audio or screen capture video to the landing page

On the thank you page:
- Add audio or screen capture video to the thank you page, explaining the exact steps that the user needs to take next.

The best suggestion I can make is to cut out the excess of too many colors and the excessive blurb and reduce the size of the page so that it all fits in one page.i.e.

Which will be the top fold.

Also give them more benefits or a good freebie to entice them to sign up.

That way you should increase your take up rate.
