What Article Directories are Working for You?

Due to the updates by Google, article directories have taken a hit in the last two years or so. I'm looking to syndicate content, mainly articles, to some of these article directories. Wondering if some of them are still giving good traffic?

The popular ones used to be EzineArticles, GoArticles, ArticlesBase etc. Which ones are bringing traffic for you and which ones are not?

Which ones bring direct traffic? None of 'em. EZA brings me publishers though, but nothing in comparison to going out and finding places to publish myself. Meaningful syndication comes through relationship building.

Are you saying that direct traffic from these article directories are very low from your recent experiences? Also, do the syndication publishers bring any significant traffic?

Direct traffic from a directory is pretty low, and unless it's someone looking to publish your work pretty useless. There are a million things to take them somewhere other than your resource box, especially if you can't write well. You want people reading your pieces on your website or a relevant niche site anyways, so directory traffic shouldn't even register as a buzz in the back of your mind.

To answer your other question: syndication outlets currency send 90% of my traffic to me, which leads to enough sales to make up 50% of my current monthly business. So yeah, syndication is definitely worthwhile . It bears repeating though that it takes a certain kind of writer. Plenty try to get by with their high school essay or SEO style articles, fail, and call the method a crock. It takes a certain kind of writer to be able to syndicate effectively.

Was about to answer this and probably make my post FAR too long winded!

      Joe beat me too it!

^ This is SPOT ON in my opinion.

Obviously you can use EZA for extra publishers/syndication but the REAL relationships are the ones you work at!

Ezine Articles is working very well for me.

I'm using it as a directory, though - not expecting to try to use it for its own traffic. For all the reasons explained in this post, no article marketer would want to try to get potential customer traffic coming to their site from an article directory: that isn't how article directories work (and it never was, it isn't what they're there for).

Yes - their rankings have definitely taken a hit. As explained by so many successful article marketers in so many threads here, that's actually a good thing for article marketers, not a bad thing: it's made it much easier for us to use directories beneficially for their intended purpose, which also happens to be the only one they can realistically fulfil.

No, they're not. But that's good. It means you can use a directory safely but still get the customer traffic directly at your site instead of losing about 75% of it in a directory. Don't forget that directories make their livings out of all the traffic that doesn't reach your own site but clicks on ads instead.

None is bringing traffic for me because potential customers don't find those copies. Fortunately! I'd have a problem indeed, if they did.

Floods of highly targeted traffic, yes. But that's about the quality of the articles and the extent to which publishers/webmasters in the niche are looking for content. Active syndication is always better than passive syndication from article directories, but passive syndication from Ezine Articles can also be very beneficial, too, (and it was actually what got my whole business started).

I think a careful read through these two threads, including following the links inside them, will really help you, Kolby:

Sorry to sound rude, but there just isn't a polite way to respond to this comment: it's nonsensical and completely wrong. How they're working has nothing to do with the page ranks of their own home pages, and those aren't the pages on which our articles are published anyway!

The only directory I still post to is EzineArticles, for the following reasons...

    > It's still the leader in its niche, meaning I believe more real publishers still go there for content.

    > Their stricter standards weed out a lot of the lower quality submitters.

As a publisher, EZA is about the only directory I go to for content. More accurately, I'm looking for writers more than individual articles.

Do the syndication publishers bring significant traffic? Some do, some don't.

Even the ones who don't send a lot of traffic immediately provide a better quality backlink than the directories. And not all small sites stay small.

I always send the same article for a keyword to the following:

Article Alley, Go Articles, Ezine Articles, Amazines, Sooper Articles & Article Base.

I have two links from each, one to my home page, and another to a unique article or web page relevant to that keyword on my website.

This seems to work quite well so I have never bothered with using any more.

ezinearticles, articlebase, goarticles, hubpages and squidoo can till bring traffic to your sites. I personally like hubapges, ezinearticles and squidoo the most because they have huge number of readers who are finding articles in different topics everyday. Those readers can be driven to your site through submitting articles in those article directories.
