How do I sell videos, I use amember

Hi, I use amember and was going to upload my videos onto a protected page of my website to sell them. Then when people pay me they'l get access to that protected page to download and watch them.

I have about 6 hours of video in a pack to sell.
Does that sound like a workable plan to start out with?
If I had a video hosting site, I'm not sure how amember would be able to collect the money for my account and protect the videos.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
John

    Hey John,

It's pretty easy to setup amember so that they people only get access to the protected content once they go through paypal/other payment processor and complete the sale, then amember will email them the login info etc...

Thanks for the response. yea, I've sold membership access to my pages before but never 5 hours of recorded video. I know amember could protect it if it was on my web host server, but how would they be able to protect it if it was on a video hosting server, and how would they collect money from them if they're only set up to collect from my website?
      thanks

Is there a way to use Youtube, sort of like linking youtube to my protected page and it can only be viewed from my page and not from going to the youtube site publicly?
I'm new to youtube, not sure what the setting of public versus private really allows me to do.

ahhh I gotcha a little clearer now.

6 hours of video isn't really that much to host on your own server provided that your traffic isn't huge. And then just use a simple plugin like 'Easy Video Embed' to stream the content.

I do it for a few of my smaller courses and have had no problems with bandwidth etc...

But for a larger site where there is quite a bit more traffic than I host my videos on Amazon S3 and use S3FlowShield to stream the content on my website. It's also supposed to protect from downloads as well but in my experience once someone has paid for access to the site, if they want to download the videos - they will find a way

The beauty of Amazon is you can scale as need be so if your site really blows up you'll have no problem handling the extra traffic

I would definitely recommend against using youtube or the like

Thanks pdrs. When I go to my site and click the video link, it pops up in real player or windows player or something like that. Is there a great disadvantage to leaving it like that, or should I embed a player you suggested? I have 9 separate modules total.
    Thanks

      Couple options on this
      1) zip up the files and allow them to download
      2) allow to play/watch on your site using a video player in html or wordpress etc..
      both of the above.

In either case, in amember, you'd create a directory using FTP /content/video/, then use amember folder protection to protect the folder- which in turn protects the video/files from non-member downloads.

aMember is also able to protect videos located on Amazon S3 hosting (which is recommended for any videos longer than 10 minutes), and it has built-in video player (licensed Flowplayer) to display it to customer. Video links will be automatically protected against sharing.
Everything I am describing here is built-in into aMember, you need no additional modules or plugins.

Thanks for that info. Didn't know that about Amazon, that's nice. Would I have to use flowplayer? Not sure if flowplayer would work for me though, I thought it had water marks or something?
