Blog Commenting vs Forum commenting for traffic?

In a non IM niche blog commenting has to be better as most forum moderators wont even allow a sig anymore, but I see most blogs even let the spam from scrapebox through.

Asking this question reveals a fundamental misunderstanding about good marketing. Good marketing is not "blog commenting vs forum commenting, which is better", it's "where is my target customer spending time and how can I be a valuable member of that community". You go where the community is, and you participate because you want to be known as a valued member of that community, not because you want to get some links on some screens.

Im talking about forums not allowing sigs in your posts and blog comments get through.

If you're going to write off all forums based on that false generalization, what was the point of starting this thread? From that premise, there is no discussion to be had.

Don't generally compare it. Think of it as a means to gain additional network. So, you participate in communities and discussions by giving relevant contributions and ideas. Once you've established yourself, the promotions would naturally follow.

I had a blog style lander in the health and fitness niche. I would receive between 5 and 7 comments per day on each post. Guess what?

They were all software generated spam links as witnessed by the poor grammar and misspellings on each comment. All comments were eventually deleted...and the comments were disabled.

The strategy I used should work well for any niche. The key is the first step which I mentioned in the strategy.

The most affective for me so far has been going to individual niche based website directories and adding my site or asking them to include me, or searching for similur site backlinks. However, i also think social bookmarking is one of the most affective. Plus if you have a niche site that does not focus on IT, marketing, SEO or some type of Amazon fly page you always have the bonus of finding a wikipidia article to edit. Another thing you should not overlook forum posting. Currently my forum posting is limited now as i feel i have got everything out of forum posting e.g unless i buy the text book i am not going to learn much more. However, in the early days forums are a good way to get your google rank up, maybe not your keyword rank, but they act as an added bonus for learning the key techniques for SEO or web design.

But as i have seen many blogs commenting follow do not follow link so after this we cant give back linking in these, and as forums are concerned if we will be regular member then after we can give the signATURE.

I have to agree with this. The better content you bring to the venue, the better you're likely to do. I's hard to shortcut this kind of thing.

Exactly. And if you're consistently posting at a few forums you'll start to see a steady flow of traffic, even if you're not posting on that day. Definitely worth the effort and it's INCREDIBLY targeted.

There are lots of variables here, some blogs won't allow you to use URL and some forums don't allow sig. For traffic it also depends on the blog and forum site.

However, if I were to assume all blogs allow URL, have traffic and all forums accept sig and have traffic I will certainly settle for forum posting.

Blog Commenting is also an another off page SEO activity for website promotion. It is a very good source of diverse links back to your site. Blog commenting simply to put your views on related article or post. Blog commenting really helps you to increase your web traffic and rankings as well.

Blog commenting for backlinks & possibly a bit of traffic. Forum posting for traffic.

When it comes to blog commenting, don't mindlessly use tools to spam thousands of blogs with junk comments. Instead, focus on commenting on higher quality posts for stronger backlinks. (PR1+, moderated to prevent other spammers from commenting on the same post, etc.) It will be a LOT more effective in the long run.

Forum posting is a pretty weak backlinking method. But it's a great way to drive targeted traffic to your site / offer, etc. Just find a few high traffic forums in your niche and start making at least a handful of posts a day @ each. As long as they're quality posts that actually add to the conversation you should start to see some traffic coming in from your sig. And if you're consistent you'll see a lot of traffic from old posts that are most likely found via the search engines. (In addition to the posts you've made that day.)

If you blog and forum comment manually and actually add value to the page/discussion, they both work great, still...don't get me wrong...its work...but it always is.

Usually, anything that takes a bit of effort is going to pay off a lot more in the long-term.

If the blog and forum are relevant to your website then both are fine. What 'thebitbotdotcom' said, add value to the page/discussion and add it manually, don't use tools for it.

The key to making either work is to network and build relationships - not just add a comment here or there hoping someone will click through to your site. To make blog commenting effective, you have to visit and revisit the same blog over and over again and leave an insightful comment. To make forums work, you need to consistently post so people recognize your username and see you as a valued opinion on discussions.

Sadly, spam has really ruined both methods, as many bloggers now disable comments or make it so you no longer leave a url (that is what I do on my sites) and forums have so many policies in place you can't link out or have a signature anymore.

Both forum commenting and blog commenting are good and can help drive traffic but they both have the problem of not allowing links most times or moderating of comments before its been posted.

both need to be tested and targeted.

you cannot get much targeted if you are going down the free route for traffic here.

find a highly ranked blog, as many people are hiding and lurking on there and these are the sorts of people you want on your lists.

I totally disagree. If you're fairly consistent posting @ high traffic forums and commenting on new posts @ high traffic blogs it'll start to snowball. In my own personal experience about 75-100 targeted visitors a day. OK, maybe that's not a ton. But, again, its REALLY REALLY targeted. I'd take that over a few thousand random visitors.

If you're going the list building route you'll build a pretty decent sized list after about a month or so. 100% free.
