2 Quick Questions about Video

Two quick questions about posting custom video on my site....

First of all, this is video recorded with a camera - not Camtasia....

1. Do I actually host the video at my site, or via YouTube?

2. In either case, are there any file size limitations that I need to be aware of?

What I usually do is post the video on youtube. THen I upload the same video onto my site. This way, it doesn't have the youtube tag on it. I think having that tag on it cheapens the site. It looks like you stole the video instead of made the video. As for space limitations, I think youtube is up to a gig now, but I try to keep it under 100 mb so the video loads fast enough.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Talltom,

    1) If the video is under 10 minutes long, then Yes i would host it at youtube (free bandwidth and bigger capability to go viral) and embed the video into your page. However, if it is longer than 10 minutes then I use Camtasia Studio to make it embeddable into HTML.

    2) There are no file size limitations if you're hosting the video on your own server. However, you need to make sure that you have enough bandwidth to cope with the amount of users downloading the video. With YouTube, they put a stop at a 1GB file size.

In short, use YouTube wherever possible.

    Hope i've helped

    - James.
