YouTube thumbnail question

I've read in numerous YouTube posts that you should use a good thumbnail image when uploading a video, and from what I understand YouTube will display images from certain points in the video from which you get to choose from the 3 image options that they provide.

Is there a way to use a different image than the 3 image options that's provided, or is having the images at specific points in the video the only way?

Or a faster way than what's in the video below?
