10 Small Review Sites or 1 Authority Review Site?

I've noticed a lot of the more well known amazon affiliates recommend creating review sites with a few targeted reviews instead of large authority review sites. Why is this? I'm in the process of creating an authority in my niche. I focus on getting traffic by people that search for "abc product review" so each page is getting it's own traffic, not just my homepage.

Would I be better off breaking it down into different sites or staying with this? I'm going through with this one regardless, but I'm just curious of experienced amazon affiliate's opinions.

    Hello ButtonLife,

    The answer = Time.

Time is money, therefore time is the name of the game. Authority sites take a longer time to catch traction if you are trying to attract traffic from multiple categories in your niche.

I would recommend building a bigger asset like an authority site while creating mini-review sites.

That's what I did, and it has paid off very nicely.

    Cheers,

    Justin

I think it's a good idea to diversify in these uncertain times of Google wild animal algorithm attacks. You might have a good authority site that for one reason or another gets clobbered by a stray Panda or Penguin even though it's a great site with unique content. Better to have several solid sites and spread the risk.

Read a really good article by Chris Rempel recently. Can't remember where I saw it but basically it boiled down the conclusion I outline above.

Why do people think authority sites require more time to produce results? When you think about things logically, a handful of authority sites require far, far less effort and time to maintain than several small sites. It's also less expensive.

With just a few larger sites (50-100 products each, and growing), I earn more online than 90% of those on this forum and I only spend an hour or so a day on them. Renewals cost a fraction of what tons of smaller sites would cost.

In the current search environment you won't rank without a good amount of authority. So I would personally focus on building up that authority for a single website (assuming the topics covered don't vary too much)!
