Help a tired do0d brainstorm (opt in hook)

Well today I've been looking at all of my pretty websites.

There are two in particular that I want to start collecting e-mails from.

One is a Political website, and the other is a Computer Science website.

Both of them get lots of unique views, I just need to throw the net in the water.

Can anyone help me think of a good angle to collect opt ins on these sites?

Thanks to anyone who can get my brain kicking.

Without seeing the sites, I'm drawing a blank.

How do you think I feel, I can see the sites and I'm still drawing a blank.

I've been on a few political blogs and subscribed; the most successful one I've seen promoted the "end of days" type products. You know, survival books; fresh water, zombie attack (lol), etc.

Can't think of any angle for the Computer Science site. (Maybe IT security or identity theft angle)

You could always go with the old standby of writing a small guide to give away.

What types of problems are your sites' visitors facing? Create a guide or special report on that, and then offer it.

I bet an expose of insider information would go over pretty well in the political niche. The best part is that a lot of it could be opinion.

Another thought or the political niche: a collection of quotes form political people throughout the centuries (such as the quote in your sig). But don't stop at the quotes themselves; write a paragraph or two sharing your views on the importance of each quote.

    All the best,

What do you intend on selling via your political and computer science sites? What will the topics be?

For the political blog, maybe an "Insider's Circle." A "private" forum only they can join, to discuss whatever POV you espouse. That can be a powerful draw, especially for highly-charged topics or polarized groups.

Personally I hate political polarization, but it's a fact of life these daze. And this strategy works.

The IT crowd is tougher, both because it's too generic a topic and because they're more averse to giving out email addresses. Any specific stuff you regularly post on?
