Affiliate links in shortened links | Promoting Commission Junction products on Twitter

a lot of people would want to know where the shortened link goes to first, and there is some app for that. Also, you can add a plus to the end of a bitly link to see where it goes to (might be slightly different ways for different shortening services. )

The more acceptable places to use such links is microblogging sites like Twitter and identi.ca since there's naturally less space to work with. But do you think twitter is a fine site to promote such products which are obviously affiliate links (so, if it comes from most major networks like CJ , ClickBank, Shareasale, etc its an obvious aff. link. Amazon is less obvious, a nice exception too!)

Do you think its ideal to hide the fact you're an affiliate marketer. A lot of the good people (maybe not so much the lame gurus) who are well known to aff. marketers would say its not wise to try and hide this fact.

Also, CJ is one site where they want you to list all the sites you plan on promoting... so would you put Twitter.com as a site, or Twitter.com/yourusername ? I would think either might work for proper tracking but maybe the latter is better since a lot of companies will check you out before approving you?

"Ideal"? No, I don't, at all.

I'm no lawyer, but I think it may not even necessarily be legal?

Personally, I've always sold more as an affiliate by explaining in detail that I'm affiliate and exactly what that means. People really like openness and honesty and it encourages them to buy.

I sell mostly CB products, not CJ, myself, so the rest of my answer isn't from first-hand experience - it's only from what others have told me. I suspect, though, that what you're asking about isn't going to make any real difference either way, because it isn't going to be a viable method whether you use a shortened link or not, and whether you conceal that you're an affiliate or not. For all the reasons explained in this post (written about CB, but people have assured me that exactly the same is true for CJ also): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6737670
