Do you use pop ups to build your email list?

My second part to the question is does anybody know or have actual experience if using pop ups will negatively effect your google and yahoo search engine rankings / cause a drop in rankings or penalty?

Thanks!

U sed pop-ups before but rejected the idea after seeing my bounce rate skyrocketed... I think it depends on how you implement it. I think I made some mistakes and still I'm trying to figure out. Let's hear what others has to say..

Split test and see which converts better. I have noticed in my own campaigns that people tend to get annoyed more by in your face popups.

Just go with a bribe instead and I'm sure your conversion will increase.

I personally hate pop-ups, but I'm sure that I've heard someone talking about how he add pop-ups on his site and found most visitors actually don't care about it. So yes, you need to do your test and see how your visitors act.

I hate popups myself. I find them quite annoying. What I don't mind are the bars that run across either the top or the bottom of a page. I find them unobtrusive and that is what I am going to implement on my site.

    Hope that helped

I never used pop ups for any of my personal sites, but I have for a number of sites I built and sold because it was requested. I think testing is the only way to find out if using them would be successful. I have just heard too many negative comments about them plus I get annoyed whenever I see them.

Pop ups definitely work, but not all audiences are the same. Test to see just how much of your conversions are coming from the pop up with respect to your bounce rate.

Yea man, I love pop ups, I use a pop up light box for one of my sites to get Facebook followers. It works wonders but I don't always keep it on and blow it up in people's faces.
Does work well if done right.

If your using pop ups from a squeeze page then they work fine but i have not had any indication that they damage your rankings

pop ups on websites are a lot more damaging because they can annoy people but all niches are different so it`s something you will have to test

I dont use popups to encourage email subscribers.

Instead I create content that is so good that visitors are desperate to sign up to the e-mail list and as such are much more responsive than people that have almost been tricked into signing up via a popup.

If someone really wants to be on your email list, they will be on your email list popup or no popup.
