How to pay commissions to affiliates based on membership?

My company, a start-up, will soon launch a series of new software products (calculation engines and frameworks with table functions).
These are niche products which can't be purchased on impulse. You first install a free version, make some tests on it, then install a trial version, make some tests on it, then you may finally decide to buy a commercial license.
That's why I want to offer commissions to affiliates based on the new members they bring in; not on instant sales. It should work like this:
When an affiliate brings a new member to finaquant (name of my company), he/she should earn a commission from every purchase of this member in future.
If you as an affiliate have brought 1000 new members to finaquant from your website, you will earn a certain commission like 10% from every purchase of these members.
Free products will require membership for downloading.
Is this schema possible with well known affiliate programs? Any other marketing ideas?
