It is probably like every other business, if you see something missing and that you think you can do better, then yes, otherwise, you'll fail.

I guess that would depend on the niche and your ability to nurture and grow the forum. I don't imagine that it'll be profitable at first; however, in the long run it just may be

You can make a ton off forums - but you have to be prepared to stick with it because it will take time.

There was a thread awhile back on here by John Durham -- run a search and see if you can find it, because he offers advice on how to start a forum that makes six figures a year.

my forum is about 5 years old now with 100,000 posts and 1400 members yes it's profitable but it takes time and effort, you need to log in every day at least twice a day and really work at building a community.

The way most sites make money is by offering good information to users and providing a call to action. Why couldn't you deposit information in a forum format and do the same?

Don't think forum like everyone else - you will be unique and effective.
A forum is just another content management system.

Do you plan on having your forum become huge one day, something similar in size to WF?

It takes work and dedication to keep a forum going. I've helped people get their forums launched and populated and one the challenges is keeping spammers away while getting serious members on board. It can be done but are you willing to pay the price?
