Where should my son start out?

Hi friendly folks! I am a mom of a 13 year old boy who wants to try his hand at developing apps. I got an email today from JVZoo that was selling a program to help other learn how to create and sell apps. I'm pretty sure he doesnt want to sell anything just yet but he does want to figure out how to start and find a safe place online to connect with people who are into IM or apps technology/ software. I have recently started my own online business in health and wellness so all my kids and hubby are so proud of me and inspired to get in on this wide world of making money online.
None of us have tons of technical know how but we are all fast learners and very competitive and dedicated when we put our minds to something.
Are there any other moms of teen boys here, maybe since he's a little young I can chat with another mom on his behalf and kinda pick her brain about what might be the best place for him to start learning. It is a school project and his personal goal to start his own business.
I hope to learn the ropes around here and ultimately start making a little pocket change myself!
