Views, likes, followers...Black Hat?

Hi fellow warriors,

This has been on my mind for a little while now and just wanted your opinions. In your opnion, is it unethical or even considered black hat to purchase youtube views, facebook likes or twitter followers. Now I know that this can open a huge can of worms so I will tread carefully.

Is there a line where these techniques are considered black hat?

If I were to buy a fan page because it had 50,000 fans I would be upset if I knew that they had all been purchased and now really contributing fans.

The main reason I ask this is because I have been trying out a new technique where I buy a few fans to get started and then put the technique further into action. I have to admit, I always said I would be a white hat guy and never do anything BH or dodgy and am struggling ethically with this and wanted some advice on both the definition (if these techniques are black hat) and the ethics.

Thanks.

Buying likes / views / follows is definitely black hat, but I don't really know why people do it. There's not much effects in my opinion, it just boosts your number and all of the users will not contribute at all.

True. Well I have always been of the same opinion. Most people do it (im sure) just to get a page or video started so it looks credible. If you advertise a fan page with 1245 fans instead of 0 fans. Other than that I would never consider it. I guess it is in the same ball park as people buying traffic.

Buying a few youtube views definitely BH?

You cannot buy a fanpage. They are the property of FB. If someone tries to sell you a page they are breaking the law and FB TOS.

Buying fans is often a waste of time. The people who pitch the service always tell you they are "real people" when technically they will most likely be "real accounts" often setup by people purely for use with social swap site so that they can get lots of points from sharing on their clone account to in return buy likes and shares for their real accounts.

You are much better off paying for FB ads to get likes for your own page. this way you can be sure they are real likes and will actually be active.

If you want i can help you with a fb campaign. Currently my best cost per like runs at around 1c per like. You do need to have something which people are passionate about to get these kind of like however.

Thanks I may take you up on that. I am more than happy to get fans the CORRECT (ETHICAL) way. Just wanted to know how other warriors felt about these services. I notice their are a few guys selling such services on WF. likes, views, followers etc. If you were to buy an ebook telling you to buy fans as a part of a promising IM stratgey what would your reaction be?

I wouldn't say never ever do it. There used to be a rule on FB that you could only use a name eg facebook/mychosenname.com once you had 50 like for your page. Not sure if this is still a standing rule but if it ere the case then i would consider it for that if maybe.

Question is i suppose how much do the likes cost when you buy them from non FB sources versus the cost from facebook.

Buying trash likes will give nothing towards page activity whereas real lieks will continue to like you page posts and help spread the word getting you more likes. There comes a point when your page will not need any paid likes to continue growing.

Currently one of my pages gets between 5-15 new likes pr day naturally with only 1 "unlike" on average. This is purely from making 1-2 posts per day.

I decided a few days ago to stick a bit more into the budget to boost numbers a bit more and expect to get between 500-700 more likes over the next week for $7.

Would you rather pay $10 to get (not in all cases) 1,000 rubbish and unresponsive likes or pay $10 to get 200-1000 real and active likes?

Thanks One thing you do need to know regarding pages though is it is not really that important what your page looks like it just needs to be colorful and active. 90% of the activity you will get will be from the newsfeed. Very few will ever see the page itself in real terms.
