Step 1???

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the wonderful answers to my previous questions. I am extremely happy that I stumbled upon this community. I have been trying to make some money online for about 3 months now and not a dime yet.

Maybe it was the wrong product, maybe I have not been marketing the product correctly. I will be the first to admit. I am a complete NOOB at internet marketing and I have been trying to stay away from all the gurus as there are such mixed reviews regarding their content and information which is why I am turning to you guys.

I want to start over from scratch and decided I will ask you guys step by step and also let everyone know how I am doing. So let's assume that I know absolutely nothing about Affiliate Marketing, what is step 1?

Do you create the website first, or the blog first (obviously after doing keyword and niche research first) and then decide on a product or do I start by picking a product and then doing niche and keyword research and build the site and blog around the keywords and product?

Any input will be appreciated.

    There are many products available on the Internet you can find. For me, I will find a niche that I am interested in first. Always choose a niche that you are comfortable with first. Research the niche and see what people want and need in this niche. What are the products that you can promote to solve their problems. Then only you start working on building your website, plan your business model (content website or list building).

    So you want to make money as an affiliate?

    IMO choose a niche that you want to focus on, because

    1) if you are knowledgeable about a certain niche than you
    should find things easier. If you don't think you know
    much about a specific niche then choose one and make it
    your goal to know everything you need to know in the
    niche.

    and

    2) this might affect your choice of traffic generation.

    What I mean is if the product is a MMO product than
    arguably your best bet is to use a sig link from this
    forum to whatever web property you have that is promoting
    the product. Or use your sig to start building a list in
    this niche. Email marketing lends itself well to promoting
    MMO products. Think about how many emails you may or may
    not receive that are promoting WSOs.

    If you are passionate about the market, then start by creating a niche blog and write daily, network with others on social media, blogs and forums to build traffic. At that point, you have a great asset. You can place affiliate products and get immediate sales. Assuming you have researched and validated profitable products on the market.

    If you are NOT passionate about the market. Then do it the other way. Pick a product, and build your business around it.

    Note: passionate means it's fun to write daily, make friends in this industry, know all the insider news... etc.
