Early last year, I created a blog selling amazon kindle covers and accessories. The domain has "kindle covers" on it and I only posted 10 articles/product reviews in 1 month. I abandoned the blog for more than 4 months after a massive backlinking and seeing no immediate result (I thought I had no patience). Once almost every page ranked in Google (mostly page 1 and 2), sales started to pour and to my surprise, after 5 months, I average around $120/month in kindle covers alone (not to mention other non-related products).

Last January, I started to focus my attention on the site and posted more review articles. It was hit by Penguin last February until May and sales had dropped dramatically when every pages disappeared from Google pages. I managed to manipulate the content and starting late June, sales goes up again.

It's August 30 now and this is so far my biggest Amazon month when the site sold more than 300 covers and a dozen of kindle devices plus a number of non related products ranging from dildos, books, toys, even power tools, and even fitness equipment (the most expensive non-related product it sold).

This year, my plan is to create a big site dedicated only to selling amazon products in almost every category. I tried several amazon wordpress theme during my trial and error, but most of them uses wprobot so they are not for me. 100% of my reviews are unique and using any robot would only hurt my SEO.

Although the listbuilding is somewhat irrelevant when running an Amazon review site, the result is hard to imagine when it's already happening......

To those who says Amazon is a waste of time because of small % commission, I strongly suggest you try before making ridiculous comments.... I just realized this after reducing my commitment with Adsense.

    Great story, some interesting sales!

I have just launched an Amazon site, not going to go crazy with it just going to see what happens. Is all your traffic organic? Or do you do some cpc stuff?

No CPC.. I never laid any of my fingers in paid advertising ever since I learned running a site.. All organic and traffic from related blogs through my comments...

I just made it to 6% this month. The additional 2% against previous month's 4% has a big impact on my total advertising fees.

Create sites selling smaller items which people buy in greater numbers then once you have a consistent 20-30 sales coming in per month release your sites selling larger sale items and your profits increase dramatically per sale.

I actually plan to setup an experiment using WP Robot and GSA SER to see how effective it can be. Although Googles updates have made things trickier, auto blogs and auto generated content has come a long way as well. We'll see what happens

I do not believe for a second that list building is irrelevant with these kind of sites.

If your building sites target specific product categorys, for example 'laptops' you could offer things like 'The buyers guide to laptops' (with your aff links) and then send out 'Laptop Deals Of The Month' type emails.

Use an exit pop-up. They'd be leaving your site anyway and likely never coming back, so it wouldn't hurt to try and capture some of that exit traffic with a free report.

There are those realy annoying ones, that you have to close 10 times to exit the website, but I think adding the single offer axtually does improve the opt-in rates. You don't have to return to the website, if I already have your email I will find a way to monetize you. LOL

Getting the email address is only part of the sales funnel it doesn't guarantee anything. If your using in your face marketing tactics like exit popups it will likely affect the way the visitor perceives you. They were willing to offer their email address because you were giving something for free.

I think your missing out on a huge chunk of change sir

Build a list of people with commercial intent/shoppers is very lucrative especially throughout key times of the year such as Christmas.

The person that has signed up for the best laptop deals is also the person that will be buying tech at christmas and gifts around valentines day.

Yes getting them to sign up to an e-mail stops them clicking 1 affiliate link. But getting them to signup to an email gets them to click a lot more than 1 affiliate link.

You could even have the opt in box offer the top laptop deals just enter your email, and when they enter their email forward them through your affiliate link to the top laptop deals on amazon. Or build a page with the top laptop deals on to forward them to so you capture the e-mail in the process.

People love taking action when they are told to do so.

Should I interrupt a customer who is leaving my site and going to Amazon to buy something? Sounds not logical to me.... As I said, I don't want to interrupt my visitors' attention.... I build lists but not through this site.

That's not what I meant. Maybe an exit pop-up wouldn't be the best idea if it couldn't be configured to not interrupt your Amazon visitors. Still, you are missing out on a huge opportunity by not trying to capture their email. The fortune is in the follow up.

Do whatever you think is best, though. I'm just chiming in. :-)

Let me clarify. When you say "exit", you mean the visitor is closing the site and not clicking any outgoing link,. right? If that is what you mean then you have a point... Am I right?

          Hi Adie,

Yes, that's what I mean, but I'm not sure if there's an exit pop-up plugin/software that will work like that. You definitely don't want to mess with your conversions, but normally a site will lose many more visitors than those that actually buy something. By building a list you could very likely increase your long term conversions and build an asset that Google can't touch, in the event you lose your rankings.

I'd at least add an entry "pop-in" with a great freebie offer. You can get a nice ecover graphic at Fiverr.com for $5.00 too to make it more enticing.

          Anyway, hope that helps.

You definitely should focus on capturing the traffic coming to your site. You can do so with a free report containing your affiliate links. So you have a site selling kindle covers. You create a short guide 10 best and cheapest kindle covers or things like that. You put short blurbs about what you think are the best kindle covers with affiliate links to amazon in the report.

You put this report as a gift after opt in. You capture first time visitors and you can email this list from now and then with deals of the day and bestsellers from amazon to earn money. This is how you reach a 5 figure monthly income from amazon.

As a word of warning don't put all of your eggs in one basket with this. While it is great to build a larger site that attracts a lot of traffic and generates a lot of income it does carry greater risk.

I know an affilaite that went from doing £2,000-£4,000 per day to barely scathing £10 a day in the blink of an eye when the first Panda update dropped.

Luckily he has residual income from other sites but if he relyed on that income to pay the bills he would of been in a very difficult position.

I see...well, I can't really tell but of course there is always a solution for that. One of my CPA sites is doing a seesaw now.. sometimes on first page and sometimes nothing at all...I already changed everything but I think it'll; take time to get stabilized..

Amazon it's not a waste of time at all we have 72 amazon websites and 60 websites are on page 1 and the other on pages 2-3.
We write our own content and it's all unique and original content.
It's not all about the traffic you need good content to make the people who land on your page to click on your link to amazon.
You need to know how to sell the product and not just write a description about it.
That is what we do to our clients when we sell them Amazon reviews we write them the description on the product and we sell it in the same time. so people would click on your link.
