The "Secret Sauce" To Website Traffic?

Hey there Fellow warriors,

I thought I would post this out there for the benefit of everyone, so please participate with some good stuff!

I recently started a new site which linked to a squeeze page to build my list.

Now I know we all have our rituals that we follow with a new Site to start getting the ball rolling as far as traffic goes, but it got me thinking that I am sure there is a "Secret Sauce" so to speak of getting masses of traffic rolling into a new site from the get go, and I thought I would give the opportunity for the more knowledgeable (not me really! ) to share their wisdom on this thread.

I will start the ball rolling - And please make the answers detailed for the benefit of everyone if you can!

1. I go to a free Search Engine Submission site like Submitexpress.com or similar to get my site indexed by the almighty search engines, you can stick to just Google but I like diversity.

2. Then I do a post about it on my Blog, and share that post with my facebook fan page (or create one if you havnt, its as simple as anything), share it with my own personal facebook page, share it on twitter, share it on linkedin.

That usually starts the ball rolling with a bit of a spike in traffic depending on how large your social presence is.

Then once its indexed by Google I start up some software called Backlinktopia, and choose a low competition keyword with low searches and let Backlinktopia do its thing. (if you dont know Backlinktopia, it submits a PDF from your own library with your chosen keyword to different document sharing sites, they have quite a high PR and they also are very high traffic sites)

Well thats how I start.

Lets see how many replies we can get on your first/ or next steps!

Lets also try and stick to Free guys, we could all go into PPC and other sorts of Media buys I am sure but for the benefit of this thread, lets stick to free.

Unless you have something really juicy to share of course!

Lets Go!

There is no secret sauce - there are hundreds of ways to get traffic which have been discussed MANY MANY times and if you want to discuss it all over again - you should start a thread in the SEO section which is where this stuff belongs.

There is. It's called Heinz Tomato Ketchup, and a liberal dollop can liven up just about anything

Haha I prefer Tuimato sauce (A combo of Beer and tomato sauce) but I agree Heinz is pretty awesome!

Quite a list and very inclusive. But it is not a plan. It is a list. I believe that Zayne is asking about what plan/system/blueprint that warriors may use to jump start getting traffic to a new site and if there is anything "special" about certain methods. I would also like to see what plan/system/blueprint warriors may use.

                I'm sure you would.

Here's a question - why would I spend 15 years learning about and testing all the ways to get traffic and then just layout everything I've found that works for you on a plate ?

If I did it would not be helping you because in the world of traffic generation there is no one-size-fits-all answer and the landscape changes as Google changes and new technologies and social systems get created.

This list that I posted is not meant as a 'plan' for people to follow - It's supposed to be a starting point to get your mind thinking about what possibilities may apply to you in your niche and with your resources.

I could show you exactly how I get traffic with press releases, but you could turn round and say "well, that's ok for you - I don't have enough things to write press releases about" and totally dismiss what for me is an amazingly powerful source of traffic.

I could tell you that I get a ton of traffic by releasing screen savers to my target audience and that those get distributed via file sharing sites and by being offered as a free gift by many high traffic sites in my niche - and you could turn around and say "well I'm not technical, so screen savers won't be suitable for me" and totally dismiss this high traffic tactic.

I could show you how I create lots of viral videos and distribute them to dozens of video sharing sites and get them syndicated to thousands of other websites, and you could say "I'm not into making videos" and dismiss the idea.

I could tell you about how I buy way more domains than I actually use, so all my spare domains go into my blog network so that I can get thousands of new links to any new website I set up just by linking my own existing network of sites to it, and you could say "I don't think I could look after a large number of domains" and dismiss the idea.

I could tell you how I create website templates and give them away and allow chosen partners to give them away as long as the built-in links to my site are kept so that I get millions of links built to my sites for my by other people, and you could say "I don't know how to make templates" and dismiss the idea.

I could tell you about how I get car decals printed and pay local students to put them on their cars for a monthly fee from me so that I have dozens of cars advertising my sites all around my town, but you could say "I don't want to do offline marketing" and dismiss it.

You see - I can go on and on, but YOU need to try and test what works for YOU.

So, you do not have a plan/system/blueprint that you follow when you set up a new web site. That's cool. You could have saved a lot of words and time by simply saying that you do not have a plan/system/blueprint or not saying anything.

Of course I do - But it's different for every site.

The days on using some one-size-fits-all approach no matter what the niche is are gone, you need to actually use your brain and taylor your marketing approach based on your niche, your site, your resources.

I know you want a plan layed out that you can follow but I honestly believe that this is a recipe for failure because no generic plan will give you better results than if you put the time in to understand your niche and target your efforts based on your understanding of your business and your intended target audience.

Generic marketing plans fall over when it comes to the detail.

I could tell you exactly what I do in a certain situation but your situation will be different and if you copy me and don't get the same results then it just gives you an excuse for your failure and stops you taking responsibility for your own results.

If you don't understand your business well enough, or your marketing options well enough to know what you should be doing you need to keep learning, not start looking for other people to tell you what to do.

You may think I'm saying nothing because I'm not saying what you want to hear, but actually you should be thanking me for not leading you up a garden path which leads to complacency and dependancy.

My first 3 steps are as follows...

    1. Submit social bookmarks using onlywire or similar. Ping them
    2. Set up blogger with post. RSS Feed and then Ping it.
    3. Write article / press release / video (1 or all depending on niche)

I like your facebook page idea thrown in the mix. Facebook is only going to get bigger. It will work nicely as long as you keep things on a social level with a soft sell every now and then.

    Good topic!

Specialize in one traffic source then jump to another source once you master it.

    My plan:
    1. Consistently Update my Social media accounts (fb, twitter, instagram, youtube)
    2. SEO optimize my blog
    3. Give your followers interesting content so that they will share it
    3. Drive traffic from social media to my blog or product. Email your list. Send your list to your blog or product.

Always remember to be consistent. Always update. Always feed your followers with interesting content.

      Thanks Carlo,

      Nice contribution!

I like my social networking too... here is a tip on that, create yourself a social spiders web of content that all points back to one place every time (your squeeze page) so for instance if you post on your blog, share it on twitter with a link on your profile to your squeeze page.

Share it on Facebook with link in your main description.

Share it on your FB page and make sure your link is there.

Put some videos on youtube and put your link there and then share it on your FB page and embed it into your blog, that way every road leads to Rome so to speak, and visitors get pointed towards your squeeze page wherever they go!

Plus not to mention the link juice it creates being all over all of the high PR sites in Googles eyes!

Big one for us continues to be blogging. We find now that 3/4 of our free traffic comes from blogs, and if you can get some reader interaction going, the posts can slowly and continually improve their rankings. We've had our more active posts on some of our blogs (that are keyword optimized by the way as well as providing good content) continue to build hundreds of comments 2-3 years after the original posts...still driving tons of traffic.

    here's a tip

    test, test, test

most warriors don't even test their traffic, they just go after different traffic sources because that is what they heard or read works.

you could be spending a lot of time trying to get traffic from facebook, twitter, through SEO, etc, but if you are not testing you don't know which ones are bringing you results.

If you do test, then you can drop the traffic sources that are not bringing you any results at all, and just focus on the ones that are.

There is no magic pill to getting website traffic. You must focus on mastering one traffic source at a time and then focus on scaling it up and maximizing your profits.

Pick one, mater it, and scale it up by replicating your results! Very nice advice there, a traffic method has to be scalable to be effective!

Have anyone has problem submitting social page using onlywire? I am trying out the free version, but all my submissions are on queue. I did everything instructed ( installed the submitter, create all accounts for social sites, then submit my site using regular bookmarking option). Do I have to install a special plugin or inputting any code to my wordpress site? I already installed onlywire official version. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

the most under rated method is to "post on a regular basis"

sounds simple and it is but most people don`t post regular enough and don`t keep doing it

if you post say every 2 days for the first 90 days, your traffic will be on fire

also, if you have social icons on your blog then you can share your content yourself first and then the bigger your social following the more your content will be seen and shared even more

another good tip is to use tynt.com on your sites so that you gain back links every time someoe steals or takes content from your blog and puts it on another site without giving you a link back

tynt will automatically insert a link for you, it`s a cool tool and really helps with your link velocity

the more traffic you get then the more back links you will gain and this is only a good thing which will in turn increase your rankings over time giving you more traffic

got lots more nuggets but i think this will do for now :-)
