Hi again,

So domain names, i know everybody wants .com but is there now much difference between that and the others .org .net etc?

Which would you prefer if you could not have .com?

Also what is peoples views of putting - in your domain name ie.....
dog-training.com?

Thanks Ross

Hyphens are not relevant to SEO, as Google has made very clear (rather repeatedly). There are, of course, other considerations, and you might not want to try to build a business on a hyphenated version of a .com of which the unhyphenated version already belongs to someone else. Unless your site is going to be pen-island.com, mole-station-nursery.com, or any of those other well-known ones for which hyphenation might be a plus.

I would add a filler word to the end and get a .com whenever possible..

        For example:

        dog-training-now.com
        dog-training-plus.com
        dog-training-pros.com

People just tend to take the .com a bit more seriously, and we find that .com domains typically do a bit better for us. (at least for product websites)

I would go with ".net". I've personally found that it doesn't matter if you're manually driving lots of targeted traffic to your site.

It actually makes little difference for SEO purposes whether you get .com, .net, .info or .org or even .co. The consideration is what purpose does the site have. Will this be an authority site or a review site or whatever .... For an authority site, I'd probably finagle until I got the right .com for branding purposes. For SEO, makes no difference as long as you're doing whatever people do to rank these days. As for hyphens, with the exception of domains like Alexa pointed out, I don't like them and avoid them, but for SEO, they don't matter.
