Which of these two offers would YOU take?

Hi Warriors, having issues selling a product that is priced around $79.95 (roughly). This is a physical info product package.

I'm thinking of changing up the price point a bit differently. Which of these two offers do you think might be more effective...

OFFER 1: "Get Your Own Copy Now for Two Easy Payments of Only $39"

or

OFFER 2: "Try the XYZ Package today for the very low price of only $19.95 (plus S&H). Give it a go for 30 days to try. If you are satisfied, simply keep it and you will then be charged the remaining balance in 30 days. If you are not satisfied, simply return your copy and I will refund you in full, no questions asked!"

What do you think Warriors?

Of course, if I do OFFER 2 above, I will have to make change my money back guarantee from 60 days to 30 days.

Thoughts?

I like second one. It gives me the oppurtunity to test it and buy it.

If you want to go with first one, add refund policy there.

Yeah, I would have a refund policy either way. I currently have it set to 60 days.

I kinda like the first one to. Very easy, and also, less to pay for if you like it. On the second one, if you go the cheap way first, then you will get billed the remainder of $60.

Maybe I will go with this..."Two Easy Payments of only $37". To me, $37 is a better price point versus $39. $39 to me looks like $40...even though $37 still keeps my mind in the $30's price range.

I'd like to keep the first one with the "Two Easy Payments of only $37". Psychologically it is more attractive than the second one. Of course you need to modify your quarantee according to it.

#2 is more straight to the point, most of the infomercial products you see on tv are priced at 19.99 and they sell like crazy.
    Just my opinion

I would go for the 1st one, I feel it is easier just paying half upfront then the rest in 30 days, and if you don't like it in that time it can be returned anyway and get a refund.

I would go with the first option...the second one reminds me too much of those Time Life deals, where the majority of the payment is due later (not that that is what it is...it just reminds me of it).

    Personally, I would offer:

    OPTION 1 - A single payment of $67

    OPTION 2 - 2 payments of $37 each

Give a discount to those that pay upfront, but still offer a multiple month payment.

    I would agree with trom771

    OPTION 1 - A single payment of $67

    OPTION 2 - 2 payments of $37

You should always end up paying a little bit more for the easy payments scheme. Convenience costs (!)

    Hey Dane,

I think you'll make more money overrall with option 2.

If you can make the package smaller and give it to them totally free, with an automatic billing after the 30th day, I think you'll make even more.

    Hope that helps

I think the first one is the winner for now. I like it as well. Very simple and direct, and not to expensive considering they are getting a fully produced, informational package complete with guides and CD's.

I will give it a whirl.

I don't mean to be rude... but why are you even bothering asking?

Just test it. And instead of worrying about the money back guarantee period, test that separately.

Why would I ask? Because I wanted to get people's initial reaction to the pricing and what THEY would choose. I just wanted simple feedback from experienced marketers here on the Warrior Forum. I don't see any harm in asking...in fact, I got some great feedback and ideas after starting this thread, so it was worth it.

I'm currently doing the split of two payments at $37 and it is doing fairly well. But I've also improved the site as well.

I'm thinking of upping the price to two payments of $47 and see if it converts just as well. That is really the price point I would like to achieve and make sales on. I'm just afraid they are going to see $47 and think $50 versus if they see $37 and they will see that is way under $50. Could scare them away.

For me it's absolutely no contest: option 2. Not sure why anyone finds it complicated, and the offer demonstrates both confidence in the product on your part, and generous consideration for me as a customer, in giving me the opportunity to see for myself whether the product is suited to my needs.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[636206].message }}

Hmm...the complexity issue aside, I like to see all the numbers up front, instead of "plus S&H" and "the remaining balance in 30 days", so I'd go for Offer # 1.

Having said that, I prefer the modification suggested above that adds a more attractive single payment option. That way you provide a choice while keeping things simpler, and sometimes get full payment in advance.

      Hi Dayne

If you're having "issues" selling a physical product for around $79, then assuming it's a good product, the issues are more likely to concern the copy than the price.

It's difficult for anyone to recommend a pricing option when we haven't been exposed to the product and have no emotional investment in the purchase.

Having said that, if you were to force me to choose, I would modify option 2 and offer the product for free (with just a S&H charge to get CC details) and then if they didn't return it within 30 days, bill them for the full price.

That would be a killer offer with the right copy.

      Best,

    the first one is simpler.

the second is a better offer as far as the buyer feeling the "I have everything to gain, nothing to lose" preposition.

Have any of you here actually DONE this kind of offer where they just pay S&H only (initial payment), and then bill them later if they keep the product?

That kind of offer is quite common in the UK for a physical product. It works well because, obviously, most people don't return it.

There's also the model where the product is sent out completely free (although the customer still needs to enter his CC details) and it is made clear that unless it is returned within xx days, the billing will go ahead. It's just a variation on the "free trial" pricing model.

I haven't... But I have sold very high priced consulting and related services with only a very small initial payment.... and have found that satisfied clients do not mind paying even after the fact, when they realize they have gotten their moneys worth. (or more!)

    yes.

I have had clients who have increased response rates significantly (high double digits) when they used the $1 offer against the regular offer.

The $1 Trial can be seven days.... it doesn't have to be 30 days...

and you could drip feed material as well so that step two, or the bonuses, or whatever, is only delivered after trial expires.

I think before I jump into the $1 offer, I need to make several sales first and see how customers like the product and also if they are happy/refunds, etc. I do think it is a solid product, I just want to make sure my customers feel it is indeed worth the full price I ask.

If refunds stay really low, then maybe I can go the $1 route.

Very Definately agree with BizBooks. Split Test. Then test, test and finally test some more.
But for the record, I would feel better going with the second one. It allows me to remain skeptical and try before I commit to buy.

I would rather purchase option 1. I feel option 2 runs into the problem of people buying things, putting them on a shelf, and then realizing they haven't looked at it yet (ran out of time or whatever) so might as well get rid of it. I know I have done that with monthly subscripts. So you give them the opportunity of "I shouldn't have bought that" and then pile up the returns. Extra work involved. #1 buy it and get to it when they can.
