No Woodworking Plans with Adwords?

Maybe this is old news, but is Google still on the warpath against people selling woodworking plans with Adwords? I remember their witch hunt a couple years ago, when just mentioning the words "woodworking plans" on your site was enough to get your account suspended. Even the long-standing, authority woodworking sites that new nothing about Clickbank were getting their Adwords programs shut down without explanation.

Thinking that maybe the fire had died down some, the other day I tried setting up a new account for one of my sites. Forget it. Apparently I've been permanently labeled as potential trouble for Google (by mere association), and I'll never be able to use Adwords...ever.

The sad thing is that I'm not an affiliate trying to peddle someone else's questionable goods. My products are 100% original, they're high quality, and they're not available elsewhere on the Web for free (thus I shouldn't be violating any of Google's TOS).

Oh well. I'm sure this is old news for many of you.

That's weird. What's wrong with woodworking products?

Well, a couple years ago Google apparently got bombarded with complaints about a collection of woodworking plans being promoted through Adwords. The argument against the product was that the collection was sort of a shoddy compilation of stuff you could download for free elsewhere on the Web. Also, the original owners of the content were none too happy to see their content being republished and sold without their consent (both are violations of Google's TOS).

Hard to know who was actually doing the complaining -- it's a pretty fierce marketplace so I can imagine competitors might have played a part in bombing Google with the complaints. Who knows.

Either way, the whole fiasco pretty much ruined the chance for anyone to advertise woodworking plans through Adwords (unless you've already been doing it for the last 10 years and have begged and pleaded with Google to give you an exception).

That's a shame. Seems like Google should have just banned the parties responsible instead of throwing the whole thing away. Woodworking plans seems so up and up if they are genuine.

Oh, come on. Why would Google just throw out the bathwater when they can get rid of the baby at the same time?

It really is almost funny how careless Google can afford to be with things like this. I guess if you're a search company making a billion dollars a day, it's too much work to find the root of a problem. Instead, you just shut down anything and everything that has the slightest resemblance to the perpetrator. Job done.

By the way...I'm thinking that using the word "clickbank" on any of your sites is probably the kiss of death for getting an Adwords account.

    Start advertising 'chicken coops'... LOL

Have you looked at other advertising platforms? A lot of people are moving to the MSN/Yahoo/Bing ad platform.

Banner Ads also seem to be a very popular alternative to AdWords.

      I hear that
Thanks for the suggestion about other platforms -- I'll look into MSN, Yahoo, Bing.

Geesh.....Google has such knee-jerk reactions to things.

Have any suggestions how to get started with this type of advertising? I have no idea where to look.

Thanks. I'm ready to try anything that doesn't have the name Google.
