I have a folder full of videos that I want to upload into sony vegas to edit. When I open the folder from sony vegas it says that it is empty and no files can be found. Whats the problem?

the videos are probably in a file extension that sony vegas doesn't recognize.

look to see what the extension is (.flv, .mov, etc)

Then do a search on "how to open ..... using sony vegas"

or "is .... compatible with sony vegas"

of course you would replace the .... with whatever file extension your videos are in.

this will give you the answer.

Are you talking about the 'Explorer' tab in Vegas? If so, did you click the 'refresh' button at the top of the tab?

Also, FYI... Vegas can't open FLV files... but it can open pretty much every other type of video file.

Just for emphasis because you pretty much got your answer
in the posts above--it's either file format not recognized
or you need to refresh the folder every time you add a new
video to the folder for Vegas to recognize it.

It says the videos are .mov which I think sony can open. In the folder with the videos though it shows each video and right be beside each video it shows a blank page with the mov file with a MOA at the end? So the video it shows MOV008 and beside it it shows the blank page with MOV008.MOI? Its like there is 2 files with each video?!

Vegas can most definitely open .mov files, BUT, there is a bug in certain versions of Vegas which will render .mov files "blank" (it will just show a black screen) if you have a newer version of Quicktime installed. Not sure if that is the exact problem you are experiencing, but if it is, the solution is to revert back to an older version of Quicktime (version 7.6.5 or earlier seems to work pretty well). If you Google "Sony Vegas Quicktime bug", you'll see that this is a pretty common issue.

That said, I've been using Vegas for several years and have done literally thousands of hours of video editing with it, and that is the only bug I've EVER experienced with it... so, I think that says a lot about the quality of the software.

I tried that its not that it imports a black screen. When I go open the folder with sony vegas it says there are no videos in there it shows nothing, meanwhile there is alot of videos when I open the folder without sony vegas! Grrrr

So infront of the videos it says MOV but when I click on properties its .MOB which means I probably got to convert it. When I try to with handbrake the video quality is horrible! Any suggestions?

I don't know if this will help you, but my digital camera spits
out .MOD movies and I simply change the extension to
.MOV (Windows will give you a warning message, just
ignore it) and it works just fine. So instead of doing any
conversion I simply RENAME the file by changing the
      extension.

Actually I tried this and it did not work. But what did work was changing them to mpeg files. Thanks for getting me on track!
