I have a question on wordtracker which apparently recently changed its interface. It refers to the IAAT, which is not called "competition" but seemingly the way it is layed out has changed and it's very confusing for me. So in other words, I need your help with that. This is the video, the job is simply to tell me the solution or where I can find the info that I need. (also the old K.E.I.-metrix).

    Hiya,
I have sent you a reply to your email, this is for any other forum visitors who are interested in the answer, I hope it adds to this coversation. Full disclosure I work for Wordtracker.

    ----

I hope the following helps to clarify why IAAT is no longer of value and therefore why we do not display it in the new tool.

While the previous interface displayed a more specific number in regards to IAAT, the old figure does not take into consideration the quality or strength of that competition. This precise number was in danger of becoming misguiding and inaccurate, therefore we took action to prevent this.

As the web has evolved, the way in which sites are made has also changed. It's now easier to generate and maintain large dynamic sites with masses of content and generate lots of spammy links with ultimately little value. In Anchor And Title does not take account of these changes meaning that lots of spam affects this metric.

In essence IAAT is no longer an effective way of measuring competition

The other problem with IAAT is that the range the figures are given on are not easily comparable. One search can result in keywords with scores ranging from 1 to 10,000,000. Many customers found this impractical, especially when comparing sets of results or trying to work with the data outside of the tool. The solution was to place our competition metric on a 1-100 scale.

With the new tool you can filter your results down to a level of competition you're comfortable with and then run the 'live competition' metric for up to 30 keywords at the time. This takes into account lots of other factors such as inbound links to decipher the strength of that competition. This is what we consider to be the 'true' level of competition.

With this information you're much better placed to make decisions about which keywords you're likely to be able to rank for in the short term, and you can also pick out phrases with tougher competition you can target in the long term.

Competition is a broad measure still based on IAAT, were not going to say it's a precise metric and give precise numbers as they would not be of value. This is what the Live Competition figure is for.

I hope this helps to clarify that the changes we made improve the tool and help our customer's identify keywords with potential.

    Best,
    Jo
