Paying Tax on Your Amazon Kindle Sales In The US When You Are Canadian

Hi guys,

I have no experience selling kindle books or running my own business for that matter. I am Canadian but would like to sell my book on both the Canadian and US site.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to be able to use both sites and keep all my tax stuff in proper order? Also I would like to know the same thing about affiliate sales through the Amazon Associates program.

When I refer people to a book through my e-book, are they being directed to the US site, the Canadian site, or whatever their default country is??

Thanks

The best answer I can give you is to check with a Canadian tax pro.

This article from about.com might help you get started.

Go here, which is the Canadian Revenue Agency website, choose which province you live in, choose their closest office, and then go in there and talk to someone. They definately will have someone who will give you the information you want.

As long as you are collecting tax on your Canadian sales the CRA is happy, they don't care about your US sales as the HST doesn't apply.

As to selling into the US I would imagine that amazon handles all of that as you would have no idea what the local taxes would be.

Sales taxes are collected by the seller (Amazon) not the supplier.

You would have to declare your revenue as income in Canada.
