I hope this is ok to put in this area of the forum. I need to take some music files from my hard drive for a client and put them on a CD so he can play them from a regular cd player. He's an important client) The files are a mixture of mp3, and MPEG4, etc. I don't listen to music (unless it's online) - not even the radio. and I can't find a decent program/ or even find out what the terminology for what I'm trying to do is. Is there an open source program that can handle multiple format music files and make them playable like a regular store bought music cd. Again. My appologies if this is the wrong place to post. It doesn't seem like a "programming" issue, so this seemed the best place. Thanks, James |

You can just use Windows Media Player. See Burn an audio CD for exact instructions

Do you have Nero? If you do just go to Nero Start Smart, the rest is self explanatory.

Thanks to both of you. I don't have Nero any longer, but of course I have windows media player. I'll mess around with it after I get the kids some pizza and hope that it works out. This client has been very good to me and he totally computer illiterate. Just needs 5 songs to rehearse or choir. I just don't normally go this direction with music. Maybe I'll make myself a CD to relax if I master this. |

I'll try Vegas. I'm not having luck with the others. Whatever program it is, it needs to be able to change the format of the file to play in a regular music cd player (like in your car) |

You can check on tucows.com they may have an inexpensive piece of software that will do it for you. But be sure and read the features carefully. Going from a standard wav or music file to MP3 is easy. The other way can be a little more difficult.

I think I got it by using Switch sound converter (free - but not open source - after nag screen) to convert from mp4 to mp3, then dragging to windows media player, then burning to rcd disk. WHAT A PAIN. I'll let ya'll know if the disk actually plays on a regular cd player. avs4you adds a sound bite at the beginning of the song unless you pay for the full version. Most of the others I found on the web were junk. I will try Zamzar after I have recovered from this exhausting experience. Also, I noticed that many unscrupulous sites are using "open source" as key words for software that is either freeware or shareware. Not cool. True open source is fully functional and fully free. Really not cool. Thank you fellow Warriors for actually taking the time to help with this minor stupid project. It's important to me because it's important to a really good client. James |
