Web hosting with fastest upgrade time?

It's been a while since I frequented the forum. Not sure that hosting questions are still not allowed but I didn't see a hosting link on the forum directory anymore so I assume it's cool now.
Anyway, I got a viral site on my hands and want to make sure I have zero downtime (no matter traffic). I'm fully aware that ALL web hosting companies will shut you down if you reach your CPU usage even though they claim unlimited bandwidth. (read the fine lines if you didn't know this)
I'd like to know if anyone has any personal experience with a web hosting company that has quickly upgraded their hosting account just before you reach your CPU usage.
I just got off the chat with with Hostgator and they say if I order a basic shared hosting account now that it will take 24-72 hours to upgrade to dedicated. That's pretty unacceptable to me when I know I can do the whole job myself in less than an hour.
I'm sure there's folks on here with experience with unexpected influxes in traffic and what you did in your hosting emergency?
