Butterfly Marketing Script - Old updates. Can anyone help?

Hi all

Back in 2006 when it was first released, I purchased Butterfly Marketing for $1000 from memory.

I built many good sites using it and generated a nice list from them.

After a while however, I stopped updating the script (I pretty much forgot all about it.)

I've just revisited and revamped a few of those sites but one was only v1.801

I found update patches up to v1.900 but have none past that.

When I tried logging into the updates area, (Butterfly Marketing Members Private Area) no combination of logins seemed to work and the FORGOTTEN PASSWORD feature doesn't seem to work either.

I wonder if anyone can help me? I'm trying to get hold of any updates (not the full install) after v1.900. Would anyone happen to have them that they could provide to me?
(I'm happy to show proof of my purchase however Butterfly Marketing script is now free open source anyhow.)

I have contacted Mike's support desk but I don't hold out a lot of hope that anyone will actually be able to help me there.

I don't really want to do a full install because I suspect that will mean losing my current database (which is 15,000 members strong) so I am trying to avoid that.

Any help or advice appreciated!

Thanks!

Aaron

    Aaron,

It's funny. We always see these products that say things like 'free updates for life' or 'membership for life'. In IM it seems life only means a few years. I'd be interested to know if they are still supporting that product.

I can't believe you got stung $1,000 for it though. I was one of the lucky ones who got it for free when he did that big giveaway a few years ago.

      Hey Will

Yeah I know what you mean! I actually recently decided with several of my products to provide updates for only 1 year and then charge a fee for future years. I believe that is fair and is really the only way that a business or product can survive for the longterm. You see a lot of WSOs that promise lifetime updates but as you will undoubtedly know, many will stop supporting them after the initial surge of sales because there is no real motivation (i.e. future income) to develop them further.

On Butterfly Marketing though, I don't regret spending the $1000 though because at the time using the script generated me probably $20k in a short time from just one site so it was a good ROI ;-) But I must say I was surprised to see it available as "open source" only a few years later. Even now though, I think it is a pretty good platform which is why I want to update my sites etc. They still have plenty of potential - in fact I just recently created a new one using the system.

      Take care,

      Aaron

I finally remembered my username and password and was able to login to get the rest of the updates to v2.32.
So the site is still working and the updates are there.

The username should be the email you originally purchased under. So think back to 2006 and try to remember what you may have used.

      Hi Kirk

I just sent you a PM.

Crikey... I tested every single combination I could think of. I can't remember if it would have been an auto-generated password that I didn't bother to change or something I would have setup myself. I was trying using my Paypal email address which I am pretty sure was the one I used to use for updates.

It WAS saved in my browser but I have changed computers since then (obviously or else I'd probably struggle to do anything nowadays with the computer I had back in 2006!)

I'll keep trying but appreciate any help you might be able to provide.

    Aaron,

Just as an aside, I currently use (DAP) Digital Access Pass for all my membership sites. I know that they have the same functionality where you can allow free or paid members and once they sign up they automatically have an affiliate link created for them where they can then refer other people to the site.

As far as I remember that is what the Butterfly Script did.

Just thought I'd let you know there ia another option out there because the guys from DAP are always updating the software and support it really well.

Funnily enough, I own that too and use it myself. It's a great script too. :-) Love the drip feed features etc.

    Hi everyone,

I installed the Mikes Bullerfly Code some months ago. Looks great, but in the "download" directory I have created a sub-Directory, and also in the "images" subdirectory. This is simply to match an eBook image with the relevant download, because I've a lot of downloads for each category of membership. The problem is that neither of those directories are reachable via the HTML code in the files "Templates/members.area.membership.dw.1.ag.html, which means I can't reference either a image in the images/subdirectory or a download file in the download/subdirectory. Also I get a file 404 file not found error, for each. I know its all generated into PHP, which I'm not an expert on. I tried changing permissions of the new subdirectories I created to 777 to no avail.

Somewhere out there, even if its only in a parallel Universe, a clever dude with the answer exists! Any help would, of course, be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Nicholas
