Anyone Have Problems Sitting Most of The Day?

Hi

Well it's not exactly the most healthiest of jobs spending so many hours sitting at your puter trying to earn abit of wonga each day.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any pain from sitting down for so long each day?

I have had major problems in this department, I've tried nearly every seat you can imagine (I sit on one of those fitness balls at the moment), I've also tried all the different cushions as well. Yet still I suffer from sitting pain, obviously I get up every 30 mins or so, I also perform exercises and go for a walk in the morning as well.

Yet still I have to keep getting up due to the pain and sometimes it affects how much work I get done in a day.

So does anyone have similar problems or can anyone offer any solutions?

Thanks for any replies!

It's really hard to say from what you wrote.

It could be your posture, it could be caused by weight, it could be stress and tension.

You never mentioned if your pain is in your back, your legs, or the lower stomach area.

Are your legs getting numb after sitting for awhile?

Or is it a shooting pain in your lower back, or a shooting pain from your buttocks down the back of your leg?

Is it tension in your upper back and the back of your neck?

If it's not a shooting pain or numbness, is it a throbbing pain?

Depending on your answers it could be tense muscles, something to do with a pinched nerve, or your weight.

Obviously I don't know you and your health, but one thing that you can do is go and see a posture consultant, or go and talk to your doctor about it.

Hey, Of course You should not sit for whole day!

Come on, you have to go outside and do some sport!

    You know what?

    From my experience,

If you sit and watch the computer for a very lone time,

Your Eyes will be super tired and your body will be not

    your body!

Even you are super busy, you still need to take a break,

and then continue, otherwise you will be easy to give up.

Since you may have information overloading or your baby

    have problem, something and somthing~

So what are you waiting for? go outside, Walk around and

    Come back Now!

    Hope this Help!

Yep, for me solution is go out and ride on skateboard or go swim, it relieves to your back, fresh air in your lungs and your eyes are not concetrated on one spot all the time, just go out and do something else for a while and when you come back to your computer you will feel much better

I work from home and invested in a decent chair.
This is situated in my home office at the bottom of my garden, which was only recently built.

For about 18 months up until this point I was doing the work on a sofa. Firstly, the position was bad for my back, nech, eyes and wrists. Secondly, I was all too easily distracted by the TV.

    Are You Hydrated Enough?

Is your chair posture correct ? You can find a lot of articles on correct chair posture...

    Do you exercise enough?

There are a lot of things to consider ....

If you're having pain, you should talk with a doctor to make sure there aren't any underlying problems. Having said that, I try to stand while working a few hours a day. I take lots of breaks, take walks and stretch.

Try laying on your bed with pillows propping you up and a laptop. I do this when the chair gets to me and I have a lot of work to do.

I invested in a good chair from interstuhl. Also check out a blog post and comments from tim ferriss blog post called: "Finding the Perfect Office Chair"
I got some good pointers and options from that. Exercise is of course very beneficial also.

    First priority
Set a timer and get up and stretch for 1-2 minutes every 30 minutes. Drink plenty of water. Sit in the proper position as shown on ergonomy articles.

    Then
Start exercising, eating properly, sleeping properly.

    Good luck!

From time to time, my back hurt. But a simple one-in-a-week swim along with some exercising helped me to get rid of this pain.

Note that by exercising I mean strengthening my whole body, including muscles on the back.

BTW: I don't think that such a thread has something to do in the "Main Internet Marketing Forum". ;-)

Try work standing up, I'm not trying to be glib here. Build your self a really high desk, see what that does. A lot of people in the work force sit all day at a desk in front of a computer.

I don't really like sitting all day. I just make schedules and follow them. I have a normal life. Go out, hang out with friends all the time and also work when I have too.

But I think I have gained a lot of weight in past few months..lol

The chair makes a huge difference. I can sit for 8 hours in a proper office chair and not have a problem. But if I want to be in the open and work at a kitchen/dining room table for a couple hours, my back is killing.

Is it back pain? I also suffered from this for ages and Im only 23. I figured out that not only was it from sitting wrong in front of the computer and laptop, it was because I had muscle imbalance and weak muscles in my back. I started going to the gym and done excercises and weights that stregthened the muscles in my back and now I have no pain ever. A lot of people say its just the way you sit but this will not cure the pain. You should really try excersises that strengthen your back and improve your posture.

I bought a waaaaay better chair to alleviate a back problem. It fixed it almost overnight. Sitting is about the worst thing you can do, from what I've read. I try to always break up my day with a walk, and seeing local clients, walking through office buildings, large stores, parking further from the entrance of places, etc.

I have seen research studies saying that sitting most of the time does more harm than smoking. Even sitting 2 hours then walk ten minutes does not help much. I have suffered serious health problems after working at the PC 14 hours per day for 3 months.
I read that you should better work half an hour at the PC and then spend the same time go out and move your body. Most people are not in a position to do that. Hopefully IM makes it possible.

I spend all day sat in a gaming chair with my laptop.

These are kinda like a rocking car seat that have no legs or base.

Out of everything I tried this is by far the most comfortable way to work and it allows me to sit right up the fire in winter.

the best solution is to work less!!

Build an online business that requires you to work about an hour MAX each day!

...there are many blue prints that require you to just work very little every day or at least 5 days a week.

How long writing a 500 words article can take you?

How long writing an email to your list can take you?

    That's all I do daily...
and it takes about an hour and that's it!

But of course when you are starting you will take longer and if you aren't following the right online business model then this will be hard to achieve. (make money online by working this much daily)

okay now let me give you a good tip to release that sitting pain -

    SWIM!

Swimming daily will relax your muscles and you will feel so much energize and pain tends to go away once you do it very often!

    I hope this helps you!

This is a good topic actually. I have back issues, had that for a long time...and I use my water pillow behind my back when sitting on my chair...but...you guys have already said it: I need to move more, get out, swim, take breaks etc...so much more important!

Only work for 45-60 min at a time, then take a 10 min break, do something totally different, exercise, music, take a good breath etc...then back again for another focussed 45-60 min.

I used to be glued to my chair for hours until my dog forced me to get up and take him walking!

Then I got into the Pomodoro method (just Google it for the details) and it not only forced me to move around more every 30 minutes but its ingenious time blocking method actually made me more productive.

Sometimes the simplest methods produce the most profound results!

I tend to break things up a bit

I do a few hours work in the morning, go to the gym around early afternoon then come back
and crack back into my work

    This breaks the day up

Another thing you should try is:

If you ever start to feel brain dead and no ideas seem to flow then go for a run for 30 mins, this helps to release more endorphins which help to relieve stress and you will start to feel ideas starting to flow again

This really does work so try it out

When im in the middle of creating a product and im stuck for a ideas for something this is what I do and the ideas soon come after :-)

All in all, get a bit more active and it will help you to relax more and you will end up being more productive

    Paul
