What is the best way to find out about local businesses that do not have websites?

INTERNET MARKETING

I'm doing a segment testing on various local places to see what kind of results I may expect, so far I have a list of potential places that do not have a website but either own a successful restaurant or business that I have personally visited and been to.

However, I was wondering if there was a method of searching for places either by category of business or just local places that do not have websites? What would be the best way to do this?

I just Google them, and see if I can find it.

If not they probably need some SEO/PPC.

And them the reason you are calling is because you do online marketing and can't find their page.

Bing is your friend for this one. But you will need to search for a business one by one, not only looking for a domain but also if the business is using Facebook as their website.

If your targeting a category i.e fish and chip shops the yellowpages online is a good source. Usually if they have a website it is listed on there.

A pretty quick way to get a feel for any location would be to check the local chamber of commerce site.

For example, this is the restaurant section of the Jacksonville, OR Chamber.

It's a small town I guess, but as you can see there are 2 listings that currently do not have an active hyperlink in their listing.

Now this may be because the chamber charges extra for a hyperlink and this location opted out, they do not have a website, or they didn't think to add it.

In either case you can duplicate this process virtually anywhere in the world. Even the smallest of cities and towns have some version of a chamber of commerce.

When I sold direct mail ads to business's I used a girl who would cold call them and set up appointments. I paid her per appointment that she set up. This might work for website service as well.

If the site is not listed on YP.com - Yellow Pages, the new YELLOWPAGES.COM there is a good chance they don't have one.

Also, ReferenceUSA will let you search specifically for companies with no website.
