Should PM Rights Be Manually Approved?

I wanted to see what you all thought of this.

I know the minimum amount of posts here is 50 posts in order to gain access to private messaging. However, this causes a lot of people to post things such as:

"thanks for this"
"this is good information"
"I agree with you"
"this is correct"
so on and so on.

Do you think users should have to have their first 50 posts manually reviewed to look for any spam considered messages?

Or do you think that the word limit to make a post should be increased?

I think they more or less are, effectively. By members. In the sense that if someone's made 50 one-line posts, they're going to get one or two of them reported with a "many one-line posts" comment, and suddenly the next time you look their post-count will be 15, or something.

As someone who does post some facetious one-liners, I suppose I have to say "no" to that ... I do see where you're coming from, of course.

I think the current system, including member-moderation-by-reporting, works pretty well, most of the time. Admittedly there are always a few "Saturday spammers and anonymous trolls", but they do get removed. (Especially anyone promoting knock-off Louboutin shoes at stupid prices, because I'm on a mission to watch out for those.)

The moderators do a tremendous job.

I do think that having minimum 50 posts is just fine.

I every idea someone suggested were implemented, the forum would slow down to barely a crawl and it would cost a gazillion dollars to pay people to do all the crap that is suggested like sitting around reviewing posts to allow people to pm.
