I don't care if my prospects trust me. Here's why...

You often hear "experts" say that the #1 reason someone doesn't buy from you is a lack of trust. But what ultimately are they trying to avoid when they DON'T buy from you?

Especially in this day and age, it's easy to get a refund. Anyone with half a brain knows this. If for whatever reason a merchant doesn't honor their refund policy, all you have to do is file a chargeback or complaint with your credit card company, paypal, etc. and you'll get your money back 99.9% of the time. Surely the idea of truly getting "ripped off" can't be the reason most people don't buy from you, can it?

If there isn't any real financial risk to the potential customer, just what is it that they're afraid of or trying to avoid by NOT buying from you?

People focus a lot on moneyback guarantees and the like, which are obviously important for a great offer. But did you ever stop to think that there's probably something even more important going on in the prospect's mind when they make that decision not to purchase? If they're not worried about losing their money, what is it they're afraid of?

There are social implications of being "right" or "wrong" about the things you do, including the things you buy, but I don't think this really applies in most cases where we're talking about a person buying an item online usually in private from the comfort of their own home.

So what exactly is it then?

I would suggest that the real reason most people don't buy from you is not that they think you're going to rip them off and they'll lose money, but rather that you'll "rip them off" by wasting their TIME.

I think this is especially important in certain niches like biz opp and MMO where there are unfortunately a ton of crappy products out there that have wasted a lot of peoples' valuable time.

So back to the trust issue ... which "experts" agree is the #1 most important thing ...

You can virtually eliminate the fear of losing money in a prospects' mind by having a professional looking site, and having a "professional" payment processing system using mainstream payment methods (credit card, paypal, clickbank, etc.)

Now what if you could eliminate the fear a prospect has of wasting their precious time? How do you think that would improve your conversion rates? Is it even possible?

If you could do that you could pretty much eliminate the #1 problem you have which is preventing you from making more sales ... so it might be worth thinking about and discussing?

Yes I do have my own ideas which I'll share if others want to jump in...

(Aside from getting "ripped off" and wasting their time, there's one other major "trust" related issue at play that I'm testing to see how it might be related. Anyone have any other ideas besides the fear of losing money and the fear of wasting their time?)

Actually, that's not the way it works for the majority of online sales. I'm not saying that's not important in some cases, and it depends on your business model, but the majority of time in a majority of niches the sale is made or lost when you make your first offer to the prospect.

Someone who needs to lose weight fast, improve their golf game by next weekend, speed up the rehab of the injury they just got, get their dog to stop barking so much, or wants to make money online for that matter doesn't generally opt in to a list in order to be "nurtured" for a few months before making a purchase.

In most niches, and with most offers, followups and "relationship building" only increases sales by an average of about 15-25%. Obviously there are always exceptions but again this has been my experience after millions and millions in sales across 10+ different niches (including ALL the popular ones)
